NOTHING BETWEEN US is a collection of stunning poems about Berkeley in the 60s that examines the politics of race, nuances of the feminist movement, as well as the complexities of infidelity.

This stunning book kept me up into the early morning hours. I read it cover to cover. The "prose poetry" format works brilliantly, somehow understating AND emphasizing the intensity of an inter-racial affair smack in the middle of the tumultuous sixties. As soon as I'm done with this review I'm buying a bunch of them and sending the book to all of my friends who cherish good writing and an honest, insightful examination of life and love in another time (and yet which feels so very relevant to today.)
A lively, poetic journey through the California Sixties, written in prose poems but reads like a novel. Utterly absorbing. A love affair, a white teacher in a black school, powerfully detailed. Excellent writing.
This book is more than just an awesome piece of literature. With "Nothing Between Us" Wendy Barker has invented a whole new genre. It's historical poetic non-fiction and writing at it's finest.Nothing Between Us
