Nothing But A Breeze,

This review is from: Nothing But a Breeze (Audio CD)
I've been a Jesse Winchester fan ever since I saw his face on a billboard on Sunset Boulevard andvertising his first album in 1971. I bought that one and bought all the subsequent records. This one is one of the best. Two songs in particular are wonderful: "You Remember Me" with the sweet voice of Anne Murray in the background and "Seems Like It Was Only Yesterday" with its rollicking beat and great humor. Winchester is a grand song writer and I'm glad to see Nothing But A Breeze out on CD.

This artist is terrific. I have bought his albums since the 70's. Recently got this album on audio CD. If you want to get into this artist, *Nothing But a Breeze* is the way to start. My wife is bonkers over it. I have had to rip and burn this CD so she can have it on her pc site, in the car, and anywhere else she decides to crank it up. Emotional tears flow from her every time she listens to it. Backed by Ricky Skaggs, James Burton, Emmylou Harris, Anne Murray, and the late Nicolette Larson....WOW."Life is too short for some folks, for others it just drags on...but me I want to live with my feet in Dixie and my head in the cool cool north...it ain't nothing but a breeze."

Fresh Air Rolling In,
This review is from: Nothing But a Breeze (Audio CD)
I am biased when it comes to Jesse Winchester. I bought his first album years ago and I probably own a majority of his recordings. The guy has a great capacity for feeling and is adept at writing songs. He's admitted that he wasn't doing much original in his music (not his lyrics, mind you)--but he was being too self-effacing when he made this comment. If you want someone who can get your feet to tapping, give you insight and inspiration--Jesse's your man. "Life is too short for some folks, for others it just drags on...but me I want to live with my feet in Dixie and my head in the cool cool north...it ain't nothing but a breeze." Take a chance on this songwriter. He's a breath of fresh air!

Jesse at his best, classic, great duets.,

This is a sentimental favorite of mine. Jesse sings with the best on this album: Nicolette Larson and Emmylou Harris. Both compliment him beautifully. Some of the songs will break your heart and others will make you smile. My personal favorite is the one sung in French.

Do whatever it takes to get your hands on a copy of this. I listen to it all the time in my car, and am immediately more relaxed and happy. I paid dearly for a scratch-free CD, and will never regret it!

Jesse's Best,

My older brother introduced me to this album in 1978, and it's been one of my favorite albums ever since. Jesse Winchester is one of those artists who has never received quite the recognition that he deserves, and this album is one of his best. Almost every song is a gem. My favorite, and my wife's, is the title song, Nothing but a Breeze, a song about savoring life -- one of Jesse's favorite themes. Songbird is a beautiful, poignant classic. Seems Like Yesterday will make you boogie. You Remember Me is the song I like least on the album -- too sad and slow, but still beautiful. Twigs and Seeds will make you laugh, unless you're uptight about pot. Gilding the Lilly is a sweet love song. Bowling Green is a song of longing for the home Jesse couldn't go back to (a theme that also comes through in Seems Like Only Yesterday); Jesse went to Toronto, where he recorded this album, to avoid the draft during the Vietnam war. Pourquio M'Aimes-tu Pas celebrates the French flavor of eastern Canada. It Takes a Young Girl is a sad, beautiful song about growing old. Rhumba Man is just fun. Several great musicians supported Jesse on this album: e.g., Emmylou Harris, Nicolette Larson, Anne Murray, and Ricky Skaggs. Find this album/CD and buy it. You won't regret it!

If you like road music like Golden earings radar love or John Mayall's room to move, you'll like some of the tracks here. Like Janis, you get some fun and some touching stuff.
