Beneath the slick production and saccharine songwriting that dominate Nothing But Love
lies the unmistakable talent of two gifted siblings, who imbue even the most insipid material with sincerity. Sixteen-year-old Amanda sweetly nails the tear-jerking mother-and-daughter ballad "26 Cents" and wrings real emotion out of the corny forbidden-love saga of "Williamstown," although she's poorly served by the forced twang of "Back on My Feet." Younger brother Tyler, a mere 14, adeptly delivers the countrified puppy love of "Don't I Have a Heart" and the vaguely 80s-sounding reverb-filled rocker "Then There's You." Father Steve rounds out the trio, chipping in on the ubiquitous, tightly meshed harmonies and co-writing (with help from Music City pros) most of this debut's 11 songs. If the Wilkinson kids escape the Nashville studio knob-twirlers and put their limber voices in the hands of more-sophisticated songwriters, their next CD could be as remarkable as this one is bland. --Carolyn Wennblom
