classic album except for the noise,
By Bernsy (new york, ny) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nothing Is Cohesive (Audio CD)
Another classic album by the band of misfits. On this one, transcendence think that the year is 1973 -- which makes nic a treasure to fans of early seventies rock and pop. This is the best that genre's rebirth has produced in the last coupla years; the most sophisticated. but it also has many touches of the mod here and there, espeically in the opener somebody kill the dj. the songwriting is brilliant. the instruments are so in your face you swear it was recorded in your garage, not guitarist fernando perdomo's. speaking of which the guitar playing is colorful and creative in a way that few other guitarists can match. will the band ever tour is question and can they play this music live? has anyone ever seen them live? nothing is cohesive is my non-stop favorite cd right now.

The musical talent expressed on Nothing is Cohesive is mind-blowing. Hale and the boys can belt out a rock ballad (All this is beginning to feel like an ending), get jiggy with a pop tune (Somebody Kill the DJ),or plain rock with the best of the best (Come on and Revolution In Me). At times there is a hint of Bowie or Bono and dare I say Lennon, but overall a unique sound. Although Caetano is my absolute favorite (even if you don't know who he is), I find myself listening to the entire CD over and over without tiring of it.

GREAT ALBUM -- BUT ITS THE GUITARS,

Unlike a lot of people I have been buying Transcendence CDs since their first, rise and shine. Nothing is cohesive is the third CD from transcendence, not the first as some people seem to think. This is by far the most adventurous band out today. Every album they make rocks. There is no way to pigeon-hole their sound, because each album, sometimes each song, is completly different than the previous one.I would not say that it just comes down to Ed Hale's singing style that makes this band great. Although that is a major component certainly, it is the unique guitar textures weilded by Fernando Perdomo that make this a truly great band. Hottest guitar tracks are I wanna know ya, Caetano solo section, and the sickest most twisted onslaught of multi-layered guitar heaven you've ever heard in Bored. There must be ten separate guitar tracks on this song. He has to be one of the most inventive guitarists in any band out right now. This album has not left play on my iPod in over a month. It is very deep and has a very organic sound to it, sounds old school, unlike the polished but still excellent Sleep with you. They found a sound with this one. The drums and bass are also kicking. Again, it's just a very unique peice of music from beginning to end.

Nothing is cohesive was recomended to me by the local used cd store in san fran becasue I also like dashboard and they shared the same producer. Favorite songs are softening, all this is beginning, caetano, and tomorrow. if your baby could is also good. very beautiful song about love lost... the lead singers voice is so sexy on this CD and so are the songs. This whole cd is great with the exception of the guitar feedback which i wuold prefer not to hear everytime i play it. (you can fast forward through those tracks) PS, the singing at the end of caetano is in italian not portuguese I think. If you like romantic singing and emo you will love this cd.

LOVE his voice when he is casually talking at the end of the song; nice touch! 7- Come On Awesome rock/guitar beginning "come on, come on, come on, ...." Unusual music Very sexy song; listening to it makes me want to be with Ed Hale !!!! fast/rock/unweildy going wild at the end ... love it! 8- All this is beginning beautiful lyrics beautiful music; awesome guitar and drums 9- Revolution in me reminds me of Ed Hale and the Transcendence other fabulous album " Rise and Shine" shows diversity and broadness of Ed Hale's ability to write lyrics ... from a love song, to a passionate/desire song to an inspirational song ... amazing! very inspiring/uplifting song makes me want to stand up and do something to make a difference love the music love how it slows down at the end and then builds up again love the voice ... soft to passionate to determined wild and crazy ending ... LOVE IT! 10- Cleopatra Ecstasy light/fun/story song .... my least favorite on the whole cd like the music ... not too crazy about the singing sounds child like (sounds young ... not mature and rich like the rest of the songs on this album) feel like it doesn't belong on this album even though this album is called "nothing is cohesive"!!!! love the switch over between songs (like Rise and Shine album) ** 12- Softening Love the French girl talking ... so romantic; so beautiful LOVE the lyrics LOVE the music LOVE the singing, the voice LOVE the bkgrnd vocals; beautiful addition *** 13 - BORED (my absolute favorite song on this album; reminds me of Pink Floyd) Absolutely LOVE the beginning guitar piece; I can listen to it over and over again pulls at my every chord ... pulls at my heart I can feel every beat Such a rich song in every aspect, especially musically Masterpiece guitar playing Amazing lyrics .... so powerful, so real, so touching LOVE the ending -----> wild and crazy guitar solo ... Lyrics are stunning. "You're the only man I'd make love to I would I swear it." A song that pays hommage to Caetano Veloso. Beat rocks. It's one of those songs you must hear numerous times because it's that GOOD!! And If Your Baby Could, your baby would...Perhaps it's the story of a lost child or love. To know the rest you'll just have to hear it for yourself.

Great songs,

After getting a recommend from a friend to check out Transcendence, I picked up Nothing is Cohesive and was really impressed. They've got a cool retro sound, very vibey and real, rather than a lot of the overprocessed garbage that's thrown out today. And the songwriting is some of the best I've heard in a long time. It crosses back and forth between pop and rock, with definite '70s influences (in the good way). My favorites are "Softening", "Bored", and "All this is beginning.." Fans of bands like Jet, Badfinger, Jellyfish, David Bowie, etc. would definitely enjoy this one.

PERFECT!!!,

Ed Hale (lead singer) and Transcendence have created another perfected blend of ear candy to intoxicate the mind, move the body, open the heart, and heal the soul. Fans will certainly be satisfied with another album with the "Transcendence Trademark" of an album with styles to fit all who listen. That is exactly what makes this album and the Transcendence prior albums so unique and exciting to listen to. You initially don't know what to expect going into the next song.... could be Rock n Roll, a romantic poem sung in many languages, or could be a tripy instrumental masterpiece. Another amazing feature on Nothing is Cohesive is the tremendous female vocals. These always add even greater depth to the already great sounds of the lead vocals and instruments on all of their albums. (Wish more music released these days had more of this element....The vibe these vocals gives reminds me of the music created by greats such as Pink Floyd, Sting, and Prince). If you listen to music by Radiohead, U2, Beck, Rufus Wainwright, David Bowie, George Harrison or John Lennon, or are into any great music from other countries, you are sure to like Nothing is cohesive, and maybe their other two albums as well. This is a sure hit and now everyone is writing about Transcendence being the next 'in band' but before they become the next 'was in band' there are plenty of fans who knew long before how great they were.

Very Retro with a Modern Edge,

If you like 70s rock this album is king. Its loaded with intense melodic songs. The band give no regard to what's "in" or current and make music they enjoy. A far departure from their earlier endeavors. You can hear the passion of each musician and can tell this record is truly a labour of love.
