New surprises from a previous pop favorite., February 22, 2005
This review is from: Nothing/Everything (Audio CD)
I definitely had concerns when Paula Kelley decided to go a different way with her music in terms of using full orchestration and writing lilting ballad-like songs after being so used to her candy pop brilliance with groups like Boy Wonder and the Drop 19s. But Nothing/Everything surprised me and excited me. Paula never abandoned her catches, her hooks, her pop. Rather, she got herself a bigger and haunting and equally as catchy sound without compromising the sweetness that is her really high and really awesome voice.

GREAT pop music, December 20, 2001
This review is from: Nothing/Everything (Audio CD)
Well, what an amazing surprise. I picked up a copy of this used on the cheap, based only on the pleasant cover...What an incredible treat. This is a GREAT pop disc. Pure pop music in a timeless style. Hooks that stick. Terrific arrangements. Lovely string arrangements (REAL strings--quite a shock for a mini-label indie release). If you are a fan of the timeless pop ether that flows through people like Brian Wilson Michael Brown (Left Banke) and Aimee Mann you MUST pick this up. This is a jaw dropper, folks. dap

Excellent Baroque Pop Rock, October 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing/Everything (Audio CD)
Today's music often lacks intelligence, maturity, and sheer musicality. This album has all of those in spades. A wonderful album for people who like melody and beauty in their music. I discovered this artist by accident but I'm glad I did. Too bad radio doesn't play more songs like the excellent ones on this record (Everything, You Gonna Make It, All Request Hour). For fans of the Beatles, Brian Wilson, and scores of other great bands. You can't go wrong here.
