Same Ol Gossip,
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
SPOILERS AHEAD-This book wasn't a total letdown, let me tell you. It was actually pretty good. But the summary gives you the wrong idea about what the book is about. The summary claims that Blair is going to have her big revenge against Serena and Nate but all she really does is ignore them for a couple of days. As exciting as the ignoring was (sarcasm) halfway through, they make up and everything is fine and dandy. So here's the deal with each characters. Blair is focusing on her new boy toy, an older, british version of Nate named Lord Marcus. Marcus has everything Nate has and more. He doesn't get stoned out of his mind and he's really sweet. So Blair decided to forgive Serena and everything is great. Serena, is thrilled that everything is going her way (surprise, surprise) and is even more happy when she bags the role of the star in an upcoming movie, Breakfast At Freds (modern day Breakfast At Tiffanys). The role is the same one Blair went out for but Blair isn't really affected or she doesn't care. Nate is getting stoned, and get this, he's been crying lately. So he steals his coach's Viagra to get him "excited" and he can't graduate and he has to spend the summer working blahblahblah. On the other side of the tracks, Vanessa decides that she's bored with Aaron and she decides to cheat on him with you guessed it. Daniel! Aaron finds out, doesn't care, and then leaves the story. And as for Jenny, her bording school search is pretty much hopeless until she stumbles apon Waverly Prep, where the new series "The It Girl" will take place, featuring Jenny trying to become popular. The graduate (finally) and the book ends with a confusing and awkward scene featuring Blair and Serena whispering "You know you love me" to each other before they engage in a full-on kiss on the lips. Now we are beginning to question if the hot tup rumor is true. Well, that's basically it. If you're are a huge GG fan, then this book will put the icing on your cake.

I have to say that the gossip girl novels are not influencing on my lifestyle in anyway as the worried parent wrote in the NO! review. these are just books, a way to escape from the world. i am personally against the use of drugs and think getting drunk is really stupid, but these books are just a fun way to enjoy an afternoon. if your daughter thinks that because the people in the book get high she should too them there is a problem! but if shes just reading them whats the harm in that! i think that these are great books. they're fun and exciting and well they give you something to do that isn't boring. there are worse things on TV and in movies than in this book.

gossip girl # 8 did not disappoint...,
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
Although I am an exceptionally fast reader, I read this book with surprising speed. I would not have been able to do this if not for it's intriguing story lines and downright enjoyable characters. This was, by far, the best gossip girl novel yet. Between Blair's surprising graduation speech, Lord Marcus' royal appearance, Vanessa's newfound sluttiness, and Dan's stupid chioces, this book was a stay-on-the-edge-of-you-seat, laugh-out-loud, I-wish-I-were-them, and thank-god-I'm-not-them, classic.

This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
in nothing can keep us together blair still hates serena and nate. she also starts seeing a british guy named lord, (umm seems shes gotten over nate a little to quickly) while nate is still mourning over blair and stealing his lax coaches viagra (whoo getting a little to desprite arent we natie), Serena is pretending to be nates girlfriend so blair doesnt feel bad, like she does, but that doesnt stop them from having steamy sex on the floor of dressing room (even if it is on top of suits she might be wearing for graduation) Arron is still is usual self (I guess thats why he hasnt noticed that vannessa is cheating) Vannessa is sleeping around w arron and dan (shes just a sex machine i guess. .) Dan thinks hes in luv w vannessa so he gives up job oprotunities to be w her (she has a boyfriend, get a life or a real girlfriend although sleeping around is fun)Jenny is looking for the perfect wild bording school but itsnt having much luck shes already faked taking drugs and getting undressed in the woods (and i thought she was insecure w her body) if you luv stories w scandal and rich preppy bitches who you learn to luv so dearly this is the book for you. xoxo

Gossip Girl? More like Gossip AMAZING,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
I have read each of the previous books in this series... and let it be said that this one was DEFINATELY NOT a dissapointment. Filled with the same if not more scandle, deceit, and gossip as the first book it had it pulls you in and has u unable to put the book down. Find out what happens after Serena stabs Blair in the back, or how Jenny copes when looking at new schools, or how Dan goes off the deep end and Vanessa and Blairs living situation together procedes... oh how intrigueing! And Nate... hmm, maybe he will have an emarressing problem... and hey, will serena and nate (the IT couple) make it??? READ TO FIND OUT!

Okay, now I have to say for a few years I thought these books were definitely trash, until the summer of '04 when I actually picked one up and read it. They are so funny and so poignantly written. Ziegesar's writing just blew me away!
This book was not my absolute fave, but it was one of the best. There were a lot of surprises in this one. Okay, so like the first book of the series, it starts with Blair and Serena totally hating each others guts, but all it takes is a lot of guys and a lot of drinks for them to rekindle their friendship. But high school is almost over now and the girls are going out with a bang! For all naysayers of this book, yes some of the elements of this series are questionable, but I seriously doubt teens will start drinking just because some fictional book characters happen to drink. There are far more important things to worry about then censoring a teen from reading!

New York, New York,
By Danielle (boy-z i-da-ho) - See all my reviews

Deliciously catty, indulging and a wonderful quick read, Gossip Girl will leave you wanting more. Definitely a (slightly more manipulative) combination of Sex and the City and Bridget Jones's Diary, the eighth book in the series, Nothing Can Keep Us Together continues the drama following a group of upper-east side cashmere wearing teenage yuppies wearing Gucci's Envy and carrying Prada bags. Making the laborious transfer from private high schools to Ivy League Universities, the backstabbing continues between Serena and Blair, Jenny doesn't quite know what to do about switching schools, and Dan just keeps on trying to find himself.
Comparable to a pint of Ben and Jerry's, this guilty pleasure continues the long running saga, fueled by high school drama, about the beautiful teenagers in the hot spot of the New York.

What Happened To This Series?,
By
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
As a devoted reader of the Gossip Girl novels, I've begun to notice a trend with them starting from about Novel #6 on. Each book since has gotten racier, naughtier, and more outrageous. The latest one, "Nothing Can Keep Us Apart" (#8) is the naughtiest of them all. And although this quality grabbed me in the first book and kept me reading, it's begun to wear thin.
Forget what you read on the back of the book - it has little, if anything, to do with the actual story. Blair did find her "devoted" boyfriend Nate in the shower with Serena in the previous book. But she doesn't vow revenge. Meanwhile, Serena decides to pretend Nate and her are meant to be. Too bad Nate cannot stop neither his constant crying or stealing the coach's stash of viagra. Meanwhile Jenny Humphrey is searching for a new boarding school. She wants to find a party school, but so far is having little luck. Blair has decided she doesn't need Nate, and hooks up with one of the most eligible young men from England. And the other characters? Up to their usual snarky, bad behavior. And Gossip Girl manages to catch it all in her online journal, as always. I have to admit I was disappointed with Nothing Can Keep Us Apart. For one, the story line is just unbelievably outrageous, and so far-fetched to the point of being ridiculous. Blair hooking up so easily with the British guy? Nate suddenly turning into a crybaby because he is in love with Blair? Vanessa turning into a sex maniac, among other things? I know this series started out deliciously "bad" with plenty of twists and turns, but it's gotten way out of hand. There was more sex in this book then there is in most adult chick lit! The entire time I read this novel, I kept raising my eyebrows higher and higher, and actually found it hard to continue reading. The parts that were bad were too bad, and the parts that weren't were boring. Jenny's quest failed to interest me too much, although I'm interested in reading the spinoff series "The It Girl". It was the ending that made me decide to not bother reading the next book in this series. The author manages to leave it where the next book will undoubtedly be R-rated. But we may find out who "gossip girl" is. Overall, I'd have to say pass on this unless you are a die-hard, devoted fan of this series. Anyone who has steadily become disappointed with the past few books probably won't like this one either.

The worst book of the series,
By Marissa (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
This book I found to be outrageous in a bad way. The plot and our favorite characters turn unbelievable--
-Serena and Blair kiss at the end, saying 'you know you love me'-- which does not make any sense since Blair was just mad at Serena for stealing Nate away, and also wearing the same white Oscar de la Renta suit to graduation AND for looking better in it. -Blair again gets defeated by Serena- despite being a devote Audrey Hepburn fan all her life, Serena gets chosen to star in a remake of Breakfast at Tiffany's. Talk about unfair! It seems like no matter how hard Blair works and no matter how much she wants things, Serena always gets the upper hand, because she's prettier. Serena seems to stumble through life half-asleep and with a vapid brain, but somehow it all ends up working out for her because she's so beautiful. -Serena also shows down Blair at graduation. Blair gives a speech that seems boring (so unlike her! I thought she would pull something outrageous and that everyone would LOVE or HATE her for it)- and then Serena shows up in the exact same clothes, but looking better because she's thinner and a whole head taller for the same weight. I didn't enjoy this book. The next one is better though- more believable.

Four stars? Are you serious?,
This review is from: Gossip Girl No. 8: Nothing Can Keep Us Together (Paperback)
I actually like this series a lot, but I felt this installment was lacking. Actually, I thought that it was the worst book in the series so far. Some people are just completely out of character. Nate turns into a whiny little brat at the sight of Blair (Oh, he's been cheating on her all this time with numerous girls and SUDDENLY it bothers him that they aren't together?). Venessa turns into a sex fiend (Wait- Venessa?!). Not only that, but Blair happens to acquire a new boyfriend out of the blue... and a British Lord no less! And Serena is exactly the same: perfect. Just once I would like to see Blair triumph over Serena van der Woodsen.
I'm not gonna lie: I'm going to read the next book in the series. I just hope its a lot better than this one. |
