Fans should enjoy this band's transitional first recording,

First full-length release by this disbanded Washington, D.C. trio is actualy "Nothing New," namely, because this CD contains some of the band's earlier recorded work from 1993 and 1994, when they were moving from South Bend, Indiana to Washington.During Chisel's early days in 1991, they followed more of the strict Washington "emo" sound and were also compared to Superchunk for their pop energy. NOTHING NEW shows their transformation from emo-popsters to mod-popsters that marked their second release, 8 A.M. ALL DAY and paved the way for their final record, SET YOU FREE. All in all, "Innocents Abroad" remains one of the band's most catchy songs.

A rare, singular feat,

This, for me, is probably the apex of 90s mod songwriting...better than the Strike, the Odd Numbers, and nearly as good as some of Leo's later work ('00-'02), albeit from ('93-'95). Fans of the Jam, the Who and Joe Jackson will be thrilled that a band like Chisel gets not only the style but the intention and the meaning. Imagine Belle & Sebastien in different clothes, but just as stylish.
