More About the Author

Dave Morice was born in St Louis and moved to Iowa City in 1969 to earn a degree in the University of Iowa's Writers Workshop. He has written thousands of poems, drawn thousands of cartoons, taught thousands of students, and raised one son, Danny, whom he considers the most enjoyable project of his life. In 1974, Dave painted colorful letters randomly on a white shirt, pants, shoes, cane, and tophat and turned into Dr. Alphabet, a man of letters. At the same time, he wrote concrete poems and edited Matchbook magazine under the name Joyce Holland as a literary hoax. He is currently a working staff member at Uptown Bill's Coffee House, and he is teaching at Kirkwood College. A prolific artist and writer, Dave continually seeks out new ways to create: "You can't step into the same stream of consciousness twice." He acts on his ideas for the sake of art to contribute to cultural education in the community and to express his irrepressible spirit. He has published 26 books as well as being the prime sponsor of dozens of poetry marathons, literary events, artistic happenings and Ripley's events. 3.0 out of 5 stars MUST GIVE IT A MIXED REVIEW, January 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing Risque, Nothing Gained: Ribald Riddles, Lascivious Limericks, Carnal Corn, and Other Good, Clean Dirty Fun (Paperback)
There is a lot of stuff in this book... some fun, little funny, and a lot that's dumb. If the book was intended just as a historical collection of the clever and corny, it succeeded, but if every entry was meant to entertain, it fell short. I do not regret the purchase and recommend it... just don't expect to do a lot of laughing (but you'll chuckle from time to time.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Ribald, yet intelligent jokes, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Nothing Risque, Nothing Gained: Ribald Riddles, Lascivious Limericks, Carnal Corn, and Other Good, Clean Dirty Fun (Paperback)
If you like modestly dirty jokes, then this is the book for you. Many of them are puns and most are meant to be interpreted as a ribald joke. On page 19, there is the joke:

When I travel on an airplane, I love to be served TWA milk and TWA coffee. But I love to be served TWA tea.

And on page 59, you find

It's Operation Desert Storm and one of the donkeys used to carry supplies keels over, dies and starts to swell up and stink. Three GIs are assigned the job of burying the beast, and right in the middle of digging, Barbara Walters comes by with a news crew and asks for an interview. "What are you digging there, men", she asks, "a foxhole?" "That's what it is! Absolutely!', they all shout.

It took me a second to get each one, but once I did, I found them hilarious. As is the case with any book with hundreds of jokes, no one will find all of them to be funny.
The author has been elected punster of the year and has won several jokester contests. From the quality of the jokes in this book, you can see why. Most of them are funny, although the point is not always obvious. However, that is what makes them better and funnier, as you get the intellectual pleasure of thinking through to the punch line and the joy of laughing at the joke.

Richard Lederer is a wonderful author! Book was received quite promptly-faster than all the other items I ordered at the same time from other sellers. Recommend the book/author as well as the seller to other Amazon shoppers.
