Biography

Pearl Jam were one of the forerunners of the Seattle grunge explosion, joining contemporaries Nirvana and Alice in Chains in pioneering the rough, pared-down sound and emotionally barren, or alternatively anguished lyrics, that defined Generation X and proved pervasive through the next decade of alternative rock.

Though initially criticized for being "too mainstream," Pearl Jam continues 20 years… Read more in Amazon's Pearl Jam Store

2.0 out of 5 stars This single's value is dubious., September 24, 2001
This review is from: Nothing As It Seems / Insignificance (Audio CD)
This single is really a collector's item for hardcore Pearl Jam fans. If you are not a hardcore Pearl Jam collector and want any of the above songs, I strongly suggest that you get "Binaural" and/or one of 72 official Pearl Jam bootlegs. Of course, both live songs here are great versions, but they are not so strikingly good that everyone must own them.

As a side note, the same two live songs were featured on the import edition of Binaural, so if you have a lot of money to spend on Pearl Jam memorabilia, you might as well try to find that one instead of buying this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome!, April 9, 2002

This review is from: Nothing As It Seems / Insignificance (Audio CD)
This was the first single off of Binaural and it rocks!
Nothing as it seems is a very moving and intelligent track. This track deals with missing someone, someplace, or something you belong to. The lyrics are awsome, and surely establishes Jeff Ament as the musician in pj that writes music people can connect to easily.
In this cd Insignificance is a different mix than that of Binaural, in the album, Brendan Obrien did the track while here it was mixed binaural style by Tchad Blake. In my opinion it sound even better that the mix Obrien did.
This cd also include a live version of Footsteps, which is an awsome song. This is the only alternate version, and the only cd where you can get it. Its even more touching than the original recording.
This cd is well worth the buy.
