Book Description

March 12, 2001
Overnight, everything in her life alters when Judy awakens paralyzed from the waist down by a mysterious illness. As she struggles for the courage to find a way of escape from this well of isolation, pain and powerlessness, her creative imagination takes flight. Armed with insight gleaned from her own stories about events and people in her past and present -- told with restrained humor and often with Appalachian flavor -- Judy discovers that her spiritual desire to "walk" is stronger than the fear of falling

About the Author

Judy Light Ayyildiz was born in Teays Valley, West Virginia in 1941, and graduated from Marshall University with a BA in Music Education. Her husband, Vedii, is a naturalized US citizen, born and raised in Turkey. For over thirty-five years, they have lived in Roanoke, Virginia, where they raised their children, Kent, Kevin Kamal, and Karen. Vedii continued a private practice in surgery while Judy taught, wrote, acted on stage, engaged in civic work, sang, directed choirs, edited Artemis, and received a MA both in Liberal Arts and in English/Creative Writing from Hollins University. As a writing consultant during the past twenty years, Judy has created programs in many diverse institutions of learning. She has had honors in poetry, articles, and short stories in literary publications all across the country. Her published work includes three books of poetry and four co-authored supplementary creative writing and critical thinking texts for students and teachers. NOTHING BUT TIME, Judy's first creative non-fiction work, evolved from a journal that she kept during her plight with Guillain-Barre syndrome in 1985.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Than Just Time, May 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing But Time (Paperback)
This book is truly an inspiration for anyone who has ever run into a brick wall in life. The author faced what must be one of life's greatest nightmares--finding oneself suddenly paralyzed--and shows how she navigated her way through. Ayyildiz turns this experience into an opportunity to comb through her rich and varied memories--of growing up in West Virginia, of her courtship by and marriage to a Turkish physician, of her struggles to develop her talents and make something of herself as a writer. As she chronicles the various stages of her healing, she stitches together the disparate elements of her life, so that in the end, both her body and her "self" have a new wholeness.
