4.0 out of 5 stars before they found their forte
On "nothingness," a re-release of their 1996 independent album, godhead welcomes the listener into its dark and melodically melancholy world. It is five years before Marilyn Manson, gifted as he is with his own material, let a little too much of his influence interfere with the almost incredible "2000 Years...," but only two years removed from the brilliant "Power Tool...

3.0 out of 5 stars definately EARLY Godhead
I absolutely love Human Error, so I thought I'd pick up their first. Now there is still some of that awesome Godhead sound on this cd, but it just falls short somehow and doesn't sound as interesting. It's a strictly average cd worth an occasional listen, but lacks the polish of Human Error, a cd which forces me to listen to it again and again.

On "nothingness," a re-release of their 1996 independent album, godhead welcomes the listener into its dark and melodically melancholy world. It is five years before Marilyn Manson, gifted as he is with his own material, let a little too much of his influence interfere with the almost incredible "2000 Years...," but only two years removed from the brilliant "Power Tool Stigmata," where you'll find the perfect mix of attitude and atmosphere. "nothingness" falls somewhere in between those two recordings. godhead's musical purity is evident and appreciated, highlighted by tracks such as the opener, "Letting Go," "Knowledge Kills," and "Take the Hate." It's the instrumental fillers, so brilliantly inserted into "PTS" which gradually drag this down by the end, as they are present nearly every other track. That's not say this should be avoided by any means! Far from it, but grab "Power Tool Stigmata" first, then maybe pick up the poppier "2000 Years..." before settling on "nothingness." Let's hope the boys re-release their self-titled debut too sometime soon! (Incidentally, if anyone has a copy of that, PLEASE email me!!! - ...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, March 25, 2002
By A Customer

A great debut album from a great band. With the exception of the short instrumental songs, Nothingness sounds less gothic than their later albums and more like the popular alternative music you hear on the radio today, but they still contain the dreamlike melodies that Godhead excells at. If you liked 2000 Years and Power Tool Stigmata and do not have this album, you are missing out on some of Godhead's best work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Godhead Nothingness (There True Goth Sound), December 19, 2001

I love this CD. Of cource I am a huge fan of Godhead, but this definetly shows there true gothic side. Yet it is still mixed with there powerfull way of an electronic/techno sound. The small songs such as "ravencrow" and "childlike" are very interesting, and I love each one of them. They make you wonder what the true meanings of these songs actually are. I would have to say that this CD is one of there most original CD's. This CD was rare, then in was re-released on a different record label. If you are a true ghead fan or just starting out, I would still recomend buying thid powerfull CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, October 1, 2001

As a huge fan of Godhead's 'Power Tool Stigmata' and '2000 years of Human error' I purchased this album in eager anticipation and at first I felt a little let down. This is not to say 'Nothingness' is a bad album, but rather the Godhead's two following albums did make 'Nothingness' seem a little dim. The first thing apparent about 'Nothingness' is that it is not as polished as 'Power Tool Stigmata' and '2000 years of Human error'. The first track "letting Go" is possibly the best, but it doesn't really stand out either. For me this means the album is very consistent in that there is no really bad songs, but no really-really good songs either. A little warning though, every second track is a 1 to 1 1/2 minute long gothic instrumental, similar to "Laura's Theme" (which I love) on 'Power Tool Stigmata." If you're not into the likes of "Laura's theme" I suggest you stay away from this album. Also these instrumentals make the album only about 44 mins, so the total of 16 tracks is a little deceiving.
Overall, I'd only really suggest this for more dedicated Godhead fans. Generally, the songs are a lot more rock like with less synth work than one would expect. Don't quote me on this, but I guess if you like the likes of Queensryche (which I don't) and more melodic metal bands, you may appreciate this.

I have all of Godhead's Albums and while I love Power Tool Stigmata the most this cd is quite good. I normally dont like too many filler tracks, which this cd has lots of, but they are all well orchestrated and flow into the actual songs very nicely. I love "you mean nothing" and "knowledge kills" the best. An awesome early Godhead album that is overlooked and unfortunatley forgotten. A Keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen to Those Guitars!, January 12, 2012
This review is from: nothingness (Audio CD)
Jason Miller has always been a fan of the loud guitar, but on this release, he showed what his band can do when it concentrates primarily on both bleak and shredding metal. While the interludes can be industrial-tinged, there's no doubt the actual songs have a ferocity rarely paralleled in Godhead's later efforts. Recommended to fans of fast, modern metal.

This band is awsome because the drummer comes from my hometown. The music is crazy. They're a really good band and i wouldn't be suprised to see them headline in ozzfest a few years down the road.
