I recently purchased Progression software from Notion Music after recieving their Demo disk in the mail. The Demo software did not come with documentation to my standards but did come with a rudimentary fold-out sheet listing keyboard and software specific short-cut commands. The registered version of the software had the same rudimentary fold-out sheet for Windows and Mac. No user manual. There is an electronic version of the manual though. You could print it out to hard copy. I think it is around 128 pages long.

I installed the package on Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3. I run an Intel 1.8 Gigahertz Pentium 4 Processor with 2 Gigabytes of SDRAM. The program seems to work correctly but it is somewhat slow still. I recommend a much faster processor (3 Gigahertz) and at least 2 Gigabytes of RAM. If you have less than my configuration, don't waste your time with the software because it is a memory hog! It requires at least 2 Gigabytes of RAM and 2 Gigahertz Processor speed or greater to run efficiently and without errors. With my configuration, I still find the software a bit slow. I found one sample file that did not play correctly. I atribute that to needing more processing speed because I seem to have plenty of RAM now. When I run the Progression software, I close every running program I can get by with closing.

Before I upgraded RAM to 2 Gigabytes, I had only 512 MB of RAM. That is not enought RAM to run the program. It will bomb out every time. So pay particular attention to Notion's recommended configuration!

I haven't tried everything out yet but you will need knowledge of how to write music. If you don't have that knowledge, you better go buy a book to learn how to read and write music or take a course at your local music school or university.

The software comes with minimal amp modeling tools. You can buy more if you like from Notion. Progression comes with just two amps to model.

Because of Progression's high memory overhead, you should give it a little patience when it loads files. Otherwise, I have not found anything else negative at this time, but I've only been using for about a month.

I would give this software a higher rating (5/5), but the memory hog issue and lack of printed documentation subtract from a perfect rating for me. I rated it (4 out of 5 stars) but it is more like 3.8 out of 5 stars.
