Book Description

July 1, 1996
The unimpeachable Elenora Villars is the pride of New Orleans. Her magnificent auburn hair is her crowning glory and her benevolence is the talk of the town. Once a nurse to injured Americans in Niagara, Elenora has become famous for her compassionate works. The widow of a Spanish nobleman, Elenora has secured herself a respected place in high society. But she has a secret that could destroy her good name. Colonel Grant Farrell is the only man who knows what Elenora really is and the secrets she is hiding, but he doesn-t care. He is overwhelmed with a passion that can only be sedated by the warm brush of her sensual lips. He is her sworn enemy, a man who holds her future in his hands, a man who has vowed to win her love. Can his insatiable desire overcome her burning hatred?

About the Author

Jennifer Blake was born near Goldonna, Louisiana, in her grandparents' 120-year-old hand-built cottage. She grew up on an eighty-acre farm in the rolling hills of northern Louisiana. While married and raising her children, she became a voracious reader. At last, she set out to write a book of her own. That first book was followed by more than forty others, and today they have reached more than nine million copies in print, making Jennifer Blake one of the best-selling romance authors of our time. Her most recent novel is Love's Wild Desire.
Jennifer and her husband live near Quitman, Louisiana, in a house styled after old Southern planters' cottages.

"From the Paperback edition."

This review is from: Notorious Angel (Hardcover)
I read this one a long time ago and reread it from time to time when I need reliable diversion. I love the romance story of a woman of grace and courage confronted will unfair societal restraints, harsh realities, and brutal treatment in a war in Central America. Her "captor" is an American mercenary leader called the "Iron Warrior". Suffice to say they have a rocky start and a very sensual interlude. Ms Blake does sensual very well without the boring graphic detail that robs imagination. Be advised, "rocky start" can be read "rape". Blake does rape well too, but many will not get past that. The woman is coerced, but grows to love her captor. The man had reason to believe she was a prostitute, and a enemy of order who needed to be "protected" under his "supervision". She also draws the love of a divinely gallant Spanish mercenary that adds real pathos. Some of the characters including William Walker are real.
America's interference in Central America is not much mentioned in schools. Prior to the Civil War, American William Walker briefly made himself "president" of Nicaragua with his private army of land hungry mercenaries. This was just one of his ugly attempts at establishing a colony in Latin America. It really helps to understand why some people distrust Americans.
