Fat but always hungry, Brooklyn native Notorious B.I.G. gave the gangster-rap game a reality check. While West Coast Gs were rolling down easy street, Biggie was patrolling dirty ghetto corners. He had one of the most compelling rhyme deliveries ever, and brought self-loathing and introspection to a decadent world filled with Cristal champagne and kilos of cocaine. His eerie fascination with his own death illuminated the suicidal edge of the ghetto survivalist. Though he revelled in his luxurious lifestyle, he was aware that he was its casualty even while living.
