5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Regency Romp, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Notorious Marquess (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a fan of Marion Chesney regencies, as well as several of Georgette Heyer's. This story reminded me a bit of both, especially one of my favorites from the latter author, The Grand Sophy, at least in terms of the assertive heroine, who's able to manage most other people's lives, but not her own. This is exactly the type of book I look for when I want to lose myself in a regency--lots of fun, wit, and interesting plot twists. Would totally recommend it! And will definitely be checking out her backlist.

Flower Girl (MN, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Notorious Marquess (Mass Market Paperback)
The blurb: "No woman's reputation can survive a journey under the notorious marquess's protection!" The scheme was madness! What scandal would erupt if it became public that Lady Annabelle Smythe had traveled to Paris with that infamous libertine, Lord Ellerton.
But while posing as Miss Anna Smith governess to Ellerton's headstrong sister, Annabelle hoped to locate her cousin, Jean-Louis. For he was her last, desperate hope to fight her greedy half brother's horrid schemes.
No one was more surprised than the Notorious Marquess when he found himself charmed by the calm, capable, quick-witted Miss Smith. Despite his cavalier reputation, it was not her virtue he sought...but her heart!

This book had a promising start--the writing was good, story interesting, dialogue witty... but this only lasted while on the soil of England; Once the scenario carried them to Paris then the story started lacking, particularly the heroine, she lost her original decisive, no-nonsense, calm approach that I liked so well and became a ninnyhammer; also the writing started to become long and dragging. A disappointing second-half. However, I did enjoy the historical facts that Ms. Suson shared, they were very interesting and informative, that was a bonus to this book.
