Book Description

Harlequin Historical August 1, 2007

Venice belongs to the mysteries of night, to darkness and deep waters. And so does Julietta Bassano. The beautiful perfumer hides her secrets from the light of day, selling rose water and essence of violet to elegant ladies rather than taking her rightful place in society.

Then enters Marc Antonio Velasquez--a fierce sea warrior determined to claim her. Seduced by his powerful masculinity, Julietta begins to let down her defenses.

But in the city of masks, plots spiral and form around Marc and Julietta--plots that will endanger their lives and their growing love....

More About the Author

Amanda/Laurel wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen--a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject...)

She's never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers' Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion. She lives in Oklahoma with a menagerie of two cats, a Pug, and a very bossy miniature Poodle, along with far too many books.

When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network--even though she doesn't cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original and Captivating, September 18, 2010
By
A Notorious Woman by Amanda McCabe was original and captivating, from beginning to end. The main characters, Julietta Bassano, a perfumer in Venice, and Marc Antonia Velasquez, a notorious sea captain, both have dark secrets that they hold back from each other. The plot is thick with deception and undeniable attraction, and I found myself surprised by how well-written this entire novel is. The author describes Venice immaculately: the merriment of the festivals, the taste of wines, the clothes, and the dark corners of society. There was never a dull moment, and I could easily put myself in these characters places.
