Excellent mix for forgotten romantics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I never considered myself a romantic but I really love this soundtrack. The bonus track "Everything About You" is a surprise good one, with what I thought was a line stolen from the movie White Men Can't Jump ("I love the way you bring me water when I'm thirsty in your bed"), a couple of oldies but goodies thrown in and unlike some instrumentals the ones on this CD are quite effective and not an automatic "skip" although pretty dry. A particular favourite along with "Everything About You" for me is "She" by Elvis Costello, and "Gimme Some Lovin'" is a good car ride song (makes you want to drive right on over to your boyfriend's place :)) Boyzone's "No Matter What" is fun to pay out and sing along to especially that all too distinctive Ronan Keating's voice "No matter where they take ush" and isn't anyone sick of "When You Say Nothing At All" yet? Actually this is just a fantastic CD for sitting around at home in your underwear alone, turning it way up and singing at the top of your voice. Too 'uncool' to take seriously, it's a great change for unwinding. Damn good stuff.

Good mix of tunes,

This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I enjoyed the movie and noticed the ideal placement of songs, so I went for the CD. I thought every song was strong and was intrigued by the inclusion of Elvis Costello, a much under-rated, but adored artist. Reminded me of the movie which is a testament to great use of music to support the story.

The Love Album,
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
First off, let me say that I give the album two thumbs up and highly recommend it, both to fans of the film, and also those looking for a good, semi-predictable but also fresh, romantic cd which makes good background music for kicking back and thinking about love. There are enough differences in the songs to keep it interesting, but they go together well too. Although I'm not usually a fan of "boy-bands," and the like, I find I like all the songs on the album in their own way. I love hearing the first few beats on the cd, which really set the tone for the whole run of songs. That songs lyrics are also good, ie: "No Matter what the ending, My Life Began With You." Shania Twain's "You've Got A Way" is beautiful, Elvis Costello's "She" is haunting, poignant, and very reminiscent of both Julia Roberts as Anna Scott in the film, and of all those other women out there who are so fetching and so loved that all those little inconveniences kind of fade into the distance, ie: "She... could turn each day into a heaven or a hell." But he still loves her, right? Perhaps even loves her more. Then there's the "The Smile on your face lets me know that you need me/the look in your eye saying you'll never leave me/ the touch of your hand says you'll catch me whenever I fall/ You Say It Best, When You Say Nothing At All" song. No comment needed, that one's great! The two versions of "Ain't No Sunshine" are a nice touch, and in a way kind of reflect the tone of the album. The songs oscillate between being reflecting happy, current love, and love that's been lost (which reflects the film itself). But that's what's so great about the cd. No matter what's going on in your personal life at the moment, there's always a song to relate to. The cd ends with a couple of sweeping, classical, movie score songs, which I thought were a good way to end a soundtrack album which so faithfully follows the film. Overall, the cd is understated in a quiet way(with perhaps one exception). This makes it a great addition to any grown-up cd collection with a little room on the shelf for some consistently good love songs.

One of a kind soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I am not the one to run out and buy movie soundtracks..I do not even consider myself to be a romantic. Nevertheless, I've watched the movie twice and was completely taken. The song by Elvis Costello reflects every woman's hidden hope that one day we meet someone who loves us against all odds...

A good mix of music to a good film,
By cbc123@mediaone.net (Virginia) - See all my reviews

I saw this movie in the theater and while it was very good, I found myself paying more attention to the music. The end of the film where they play "She" by Elvis Costello and you see them walking along and sitting in the park, just enjoying life, that is one of the most touching moments I have ever seen on film. That song is simply beautiful. You'll realize after listening to the lyrics that most love songs are very poorly written in comparison. Kudos to the guys behind getting it put on the soundtrack- it saves it!

Absolutely Wonderful - The Film and Soundtrack of the Year,
By A Customer
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
First off, I'd like to say that this is an amazing film. I've only seen it once, but I will be going to see it again very soon. The best way to describe it is that if it doesn't make you feel totally loved up by the end of the film, then you must have a heart of stone! With regards to the soundtrack, I've got one word for you: WOW!!! It is perfect for the film. It is probably the most impressive collection of love ballads that I've seen on any music release, and it's versatility is amazing in a way that it explores every emotion of we call LOVE!! 'When you say nothing at all' and 'From the heart' are wonderful tracks, and 'I do (cherish you)' came as an extremely pleasant suprise. Also I don't think that the Lighthouse Family could have done a much better job with Bill Withers' classic 'Ain't no Sunshine' (not to say that Bill's version is any worse though). All-in-all, this makes for the best soundtrack of the year, and maybe the best that I, personally, have seen yet!!!

A very nice Soundtrack for a good film,
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
My wife and I saw the movie in the theatre and purchased the movie on DVD and the soundtrack. We enjoy many of the songs on this CD. My favorite is "Say Nothing at All" by Ronan Keating, (one of the Boyzone members). The version of Say Nothing at All recorded by Allison Krauss and Union Station tops this version, but still a great recording. Boyzone's "No Matter What" written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Shania Twain's "You've Got a Way" are used in the closing credits of the film and two great songs. Bill Wither's great song "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" is perfect for one scene in the movie. The bonus tracks were added as fill since they weren't used in the film. Techno version of "Ain't No Sunshine" is okay. Costello's "She" isn't a favorite of mine. I believe his voice isn't right for this song. Trevor Jones original musical score I believe is especially nice. Al Green's "How to Mend a Broken Heart" is used well in the film, but does not appeal to my tastes. Hope you enjoy the CD and have seen the film.

MY WEDDING SONG,
By brittany (San Antonio, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Notting Hill: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
im not really a fan of soundtracks, especially soundtracks from romance/comedy movies. I liked the movie, but not THAT much to go out and by the music, especially since I only really recalled one song that i actually heard. However, i was in class, and my teacher plays music while we take notes, and she started playing this cd with the best soothing tunes! well, to make a long story short, i burned that cd of hers, it happened to be NOTTING HILL, and i listen to it when life gets chaotic! My favorite song is #8, When You Say Nothing At All, by Ronan Keating.. This is going to be my wedding song!!

This CD, just as the movie, is the best, most romantic, and heart tugging tunes that I've heard in a long time. I could watch the movie every day (I'm a shameless romantic- for my husband of 18 years), and DO listen to this CD daily. I can't help it, what's a girl to do? My favorite song, "She", makes me think, "Do I appear this way to my husband?". If I don't at the time, I work hard to change that. I want to be the "face he can't forget". Here I go rambling....

I just saw the movie last night on video and even though I didn't absolutely love the movie I loved the music in it. The CD is great and I especially love the song by Ronan Keating - what an incredible voice.
