Biography

Nouvelle Vague is the name used by French producers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux for their series of albums which cover pop songs in bossa nova/easy listening style. The pair gathered together French and Brazilian female vocalists to sing cover versions of 'classic' pop songs, including Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones. The resulting self-titled… Read more in Amazon's Nouvelle Vague Store

Editorial Reviews

2009 release, the third album from the French band that conquered the world with Bossa Nova covers of Punk and New Wave classics. Features guest vocals from Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Ian McCulloch (Echo & The Bunnymen), Barry Adamson (Magazine) and Terry Hall (The Specials/Fun Boy Three). Led by producer/arrangers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux and sung by a revolving cast of chanteuses, the group's first two albums have sold well over half-a-million copies. On 3, gone are the Reggae and Bossa Nova interpretations. Instead, the songs are inspired by American Country music and Bluegrass. This time around, Nouvelle Vague reinterpret Talking Heads' 'Road To Nowhere', Psychedelic Furs' 'Heaven', Gary Numan's 'Metal', Sex Pistols' 'God Save The Queen', Plastic Bertrand's 'Ca Plane Pour Moi', Soft Cell's 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' and many more, making this Nouvelle Vague's strongest album to date. Peace Frog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album to chill out to on a Sunday morning or any day for that matter, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Nouvelle Vague 3 (Audio CD)
I have to admit I wasn't initially a fan of Nouvelle Vague. I heard their first album a few years ago and wasn't crazy about their take on some classic songs from the '80s. After hearing the Hollywood Mon Amour album from one of the men behind Nouvelle Vague last year and liking it, I decided to give NV another shot with their new album 3. I must say I really dig their song selection this time around. I am especially fond of the duo's versions of "Master and Servant" and "Road to Nowhere". I really like how light and airy the songs are. The music is very soothing and a nice calming effect on me with the acoustic guitars and delicate vocals. I would describe the music as a mix of folk and french pop. It is very pleasant to listen to. The singers reminds me a bit of Marissa Nadler with their delicate, fragile vocals. Contrary to what one reviewer has said, the singers on the song has been listed in the CD booklet so ignore what the person has claimed that the producers has not given credit where credit is due for the women who sings on the album. 3 is the perfect album to listen to on a lazy Sunday morning with a cup of hot coffee and the Sunday newspaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good buy!, February 14, 2010
This review is from: Nouvelle Vague 3 (Audio CD)
I love this band and this third cd is just as bad a@@!! I just saw them in San Francisco and loved them live!
They do a light magical interpretation of great hits I have grown up with. If you have a love for great music get this. if you are into mainstream, don't consider purchasing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music - Sexist creditation, November 11, 2009
By
This review is from: Nouvelle Vague 3 (Audio CD)
Here's some great music by two sexist French producers. Why sexist? You'd never know that there's a bunch of talented girl singers on here, because they female vocalists who sing every song aren't credited... the original bands are credited and if an original member from the old band shows up they're credited (as long as they're male) but why not the talented foxy singers?

They're treated like chattel, like disposable property: "Led by producer/arrangers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux and sung by a revolving cast of chanteuses" What is this, a Gasper Noe film come to CD life? How about letting us know who these talented bitchez are and not presume--as these two vain f***ers do, that the only reason we all dig this music is for their inspired but ultimately shallow arrangements?
