Editorial Reviews

With no warning and in mere seconds, avalanches wipe out everything in their paths, killing hundreds of people each year. Put yourself in the path of this terrifying force from the ski slopes of Montana to a village in Iceland, from Juneau, Alaska, to Switzerland's mountain roads and see what risks scientists are taking to protect us.

4.0 out of 5 stars AVALANCHE: Great footage, informative, entertaining, March 20, 2000
This review is from: Nova: Avalanche [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie is the perfect selection for anyone who is new to the avalanche field and wants to better understand the basics of snow science. It is also ideal for the experienced avalanche person who is tired of the sometimes boring technical avalanche videos. The simple yet scientific look at how weather, snowpack, and terrain can combine to produce an avalache is very well presented. The dramatic footage, informative graphs and diagrams, and amazing avalanche stories make this video a must for anyone who spends time in avalanche terrain.
