King Tut was great, but the ancient Egyptians didn't have a monopoly on preserving bodies. In Nova's boxed set Ice Mummies, we see three very different stories: Return of the Iceman, which recounts the study of a 5,000-year-old man found in the Italian Alps; Frozen in Heaven, a look at the evidence for Inca human sacrifice, which is so well preserved in the Peruvian Andes; and Siberian Ice Maiden, a tale of the clash between scientists and natives for the rights to a 2,400-year-old woman's body. Each film is haunting in its own way, yet provides an engrossing look into the nature of archaeological study; finds of such antiquity are rare, but perfectly preserved bodies are truly few and far between. This series of programmes is absolutely excellent. I first saw them when they aired in the UK on BBC and have seen them twice since. Despite the occasional melodramatic moment, the programmes are filled with good science and interesting information for anyone.

This set shows you alot of history about three different groups of people, the Ice Maiden and the man that was found after her were from the same clan. The Inca Children Frozen In Heaven was heart wrenching, the expressions on some of their faces, you would wonder why they had to die so young, until you hear the entire story. The 5,000 year old Iceman that was found along a path that someone accidentally discovered was the most fascinating because he had tools that were his. Some seem to think he froze to death, while others seem to think he was killed. This set is very interesting if you are into history about people in general. The reasons why some do what they do, while others just die. If you think men were the first to be tattooed this set will show different, the Ice Maiden had some nice tattoos on her arms of animals. Though the man had some nice tattoo work also. You have to get this set because it is part of our heritage, too, if you think about it. If it was not for them would we be here today? That is just my opinion. This is worth the money.
