Gave dog a thorough bath per vet and applied Advantage II.

We don't often have to treat for fleas but needed to when our dogs picked up some and all started scratching like crazy.

My dog does not often get fleas and never ticks so I only apply treatment at the sight of a problem.

Our vet rcently started recommending Parastar to us (for our Golden). Immediately after switching we noticed fleas for the first time in our lives and were somewhat shocked.

Afterwards we discovered many other Parastar customers experiencing the same thing (noting it is effective with ticks but NOT fleas). Very disappointing.

My dog does not often get fleas and never ticks so I only apply treatment at the sight of a problem. I have a Wheaten Terrier with a thick fine coat and usually these products, after drying, are similar to dried hairspray...not a problem. However, PARASTAR PLUS was like applying liquid gum and it stayed that way after it dried. I couldn't even get a comb through it. If you have a long-haired dog, especially with fine hair I would definitely NOT use this. I am going to take the remaining 2 doses back to the vet. I will not use the rest as it was difficult to get out of his hair and a big mess. It may have worked on the fleas, but not worth the mess in his hair. I'll find another product that works. This can't be the only one.

I got a puppy... Well, my vet recommends this stuff & instructed us to use it year-round. I seriously doubt any actual exposure on our roadside skating paths (aka snowy city sidewalks), but I applied it exactly as instructed all winter. I figured that at least it would be adequately in doggie's "system" in time for spring.

But we tested it out with our first hike - and she came back covered with ticks. Vet says this treatment "may not actually repel the ticks." Obviously not. I guess she could have had *more* ticks - so I can't say the stuff doesn't repel at all, but if it does, it doesn't do so very well!

Vet followed the comment about repellency with "but once they bite, they die." Um, no. I kept finding ticks for several hours - ticks that were both attached and alive. I guess the ticks could have been sick - how would I know? But they were certainly not dead. I even found one the next day, and it was plently wiggly.

I debated giving 1 star - but hey, no fleas! (Though really, the fleas probably aren't even out yet.) Maybe this works on other breeds, or against other tick varieties - but not on my Brittany, & I found both deer ticks & dog ticks. Fail!

We don't often have to treat for fleas but needed to when our dogs picked up some and all started scratching like crazy. Parastar did not do the trick. It was like we'd never applied anything. Scratching got worse and we had many flea sightings. After a month of this we bought Advantix and after only one day they are already better. We don't plan to switch again. More expensive but definitely worth it.

and is cheaper than Frontline and has the same active ingredients in the same proportions. I hate using pesticides on my dogs, but was forced to do so this summer...lots of ticks! This does a good job at keeping them away and killing ones they already have...I'm glad to find dead ticks.
