4.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With This Phone!
Overall, I'm VERY happy with this phone. The screen is of excellent quality and the backlight and keyboard lights are very bright, which I prefer. This is the first QWERTY keyboard phone I've had, so it's still taking me a while to get used to texting on it. Texting is impossible to do while driving with the keyboard, however, but you're not supposed to do that anyway...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea but Sounds Like a Trap for Overage Charges, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Modem (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I checked this unit out in the Sprint store and was almost sold until I figured out how close I would come to the 5Gb limit and how much it would cost to go over. Just using Itunes and 5-10 NPR podcasts per day I would hit 6Gb a month easily and that extra Gb would cost 50$! Doubling my monthly bill! And that is not counting any other usage like Youtube or Warcraft or Windows updates or game downloads which can really eat up bandwidth.

It seems to me this is their business model, setting the monthly limit bar low enough to guarantee a large percentage of revenue from overage charges. Especially as the overage charge rate is way out of proportion to the monthly charge. i.e. if I am paying $60/mo for 5Gb, I would expect a 1Gb overage to cost ~$12 or maybe $20, but NOT $50! It seems another example of the great American business traditions of bait-and-switch or trick-and-trap or 'never give a sucker an even break'.

So I decided to wait until a more reasonable monthly limit is available at a reasonable price as I would rather not play the game of having to check my usage every day to make sure I dont get hit with a huge bill.

But if you are strictly an email/surfer type user then this sounds like the ideal solution, well enabling tethering on the Pre or the Iphone would really be the ideal, but that is purposely disabled by the phone companies it seems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great phone with small issues., December 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
this is a great phone, the only issue I have is that it keeps shutting down for no reason. Researching on-line concluded that with this phone it is a know issues since the battery cover does not secure or have a tight fit to keep it in place. To resolve this issues, I have purchased a skin to attach to the phone and have not had an issue since.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With This Phone!, August 28, 2009
Overall, I'm VERY happy with this phone. The screen is of excellent quality and the backlight and keyboard lights are very bright, which I prefer. This is the first QWERTY keyboard phone I've had, so it's still taking me a while to get used to texting on it. Texting is impossible to do while driving with the keyboard, however, but you're not supposed to do that anyway :). I get tons of compliments on it and it's very fun and stylish!
Just three not-the-best things: the memory on the phone is very low. I transferred a handful of pictures via Bluetooth from my old phone onto this one and I was only able to take a few pictures before the memory filled up, which is very frustrating and I'm going to have to get a microSD card to fix this. Another thing is when I slid the phone open too quickly or shut it too quickly, the screen completely froze and I had to turn off the phone and turn it back on again. Now I just make sure to not slide it open or close it too quickly and wait for the action it's performing to finish, and that error hasn't happened again. The last thing is that the touch-screen dialing is a bit tricky. You have to touch above the number you actually want to dial, so the best thing to do is either slide open the QWERTY and enter the phone number that way or just go to your Contacts and dial from there.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Problems, December 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this phone for my daughter, with an existing AT&T account. We charged the phone and put the sim card from her old phone in (behind battery) with no problems whatsoever. Phone worked just fine with our account.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neon, September 8, 2009
I really like the LG Neon. My only complaint, and this may be a service related issue and not the phone, but with this phone and my last LG phone, while talking, the line will get alot of static on it. Sometimes it clears and sometimes you have to hang up and call back. My husband has the same service, but different phone, and this doesn't happen to him. This makes me think it is something with the LG brand.

This review is from: Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Modem (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
As a long time Mobile Broadband user who regularly puts these devices through their paces, I can say with certainty that this is one of the best mobile broadband devices that I have used.

Having recently switched from Windows to Mac and not being under contract for my current Sprint (Novatel Wireless) S720, I set about looking for a device that wouldn't take up one of my precious few USB connections. Well, that quickly eliminated all the current Mac compatible offerings and left the Mifi as one of my only options.

Still I was a bit wary and certainly did not want to drop the $100 that Sprint wanted for the device before rebate without some assurance it would work well. Additionally i was reluctant to give up my grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan as I use this device extensively while traveling for work.

After shopping around a bit I found some resellers that were offering the device for no out of pocket costs and who assured me they could keep my old plan, I pulled the trigger, and I do not yet regret it.

I have used the device for Email, Web Browsing, Video Conferencing and Skype and have found it to be as reliable as the S720 it replaces.

Setup was a breeze and ongoing management of the device via the web access has been painless.

As far as the device itself, It is a little bit on the cheaply made side (plastics are thin and the finish is lower end), but the fit and overall build of the device seems solid. We will see how it holds up to the abuses of frequent travel.

The device does get warm while in use and the battery life is a bit short (not unexpected for a device this small powering two full time radios and a GPS Receiver on occasion).

I like the feature of being able to turn the LEDs off to both save on power and to make the device less "Vegas Glitzy" obvious.

Overall it is a solid performer that comes in at a great price point, and functionally offers great flexibility if you need to get several people online at the same time.

I don't see how anyone in their right mind would purchase a PCMCIA or USB based data card, which only allows a single PC to connect to the Internet, when you can own a Mi-Fi for the same money and connect up to 5 wireless devices to the Internet. The key word being "devices", which can include a PDA, camera, video conf equipment, etc., that wouldn't even accept a PCMCIA or USB based data card. Plus there's no connection software required like there is with a PCMCIA or USB based data card, since the Mi-Fi is essentially a wireless router. This device is to mobile data what CDs or MP3 players were to the music industry. Can you even buy a new car these days with a cassette player?

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Product, Much better than the Verizon one, August 13, 2009

I just got this Sprint mifi card after having the Verizon one for 2 weeks. The Sprint one is sooooo much faster than the Verizon one, almost 2x the speed. It also does not require software like the verizon one, which is great for adding additional users, and from what I keep reading Sprint's network is faster, larger and more reliable. Glad I made the switch!

I decided to upgrade to the MiFi from my Ovation u727 and I am 100% glad that I did. My connection is faster and sharing my service with others does not slow my connection down (unlike the u727). I'm even considering canceling my DSL at home... it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Device, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Modem (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
Simple directions. Setup was quick and easy. Fast link to 3G. Strong signals. Quick loading of pages. This is a super product.

It helps to check coverage in your area first !!!!! If Sprint's not good for you, check Verizon. MAKE SURE you check 3G coverage and NOT cell phone coverage in your areas. This uses 3G network so cell coverage is totally irrelevant. Both of the two cities I need to use this in most have total Sprint 3G coverage. I love this product and it's perfect for when I am away from my home or work wifi nets.

By the way, stop whining about 5gb limit. If you're not trying to stream music and videos/movies, this is plenty, especially if you're trying to use this to replace a home internet connection. This is for a specific purpose and in that context this is a GREAT product.
