Novation ZeRO SL MkII USB Midi Controller

I use this device in Logic Studio on a Mac machine. I have owned a Zero MK II for about 18 months, and I find it very difficult and counter-intuitive to use. Before purchasing this product, log in to the Novation Music website and check out their "support" page, and notice how many reasonable questions go unanswered for months or not at all. My own experience bears this out -- ONE YEAR after a question was posed I received a sheepish reply from one of their support people. The documentation for the device has only slowly been improving, and you will spend a good deal of time trying to figure out how to use the device. A "template editor" is only available, years after the device's introduction, as a "beta" program from their beta website. It is only by using this editor that you are given a graphical interface that makes it somewhat possible to reprogram the various controls to your liking without using the buggy "Automap" software. I would rate this a "1" star, except for the fact that when one is finally able to cut through the documentation and get the thing working, it does perform a useful controller function for MIDI compositions. Frankly, I would look elsewhere. I attribute most of the company's failings to management, and not individual support personnel, who, when you finally get them, do attempt to provide helpful answers. I regret the purchase.

I can't say a lot about this device yet. I haven't spent very much time using it yet. I have toyed with it a little bit in both Ableton Live and Traktor Scratch Pro 2. It works well natively with Ableton Live using the AutoMap software. For Traktor Scratch Pro 2 I did have to spend a little time programming functions to the controller, but it was quite easy and came without issues. So far so good!
