I just got this book a day ago at full price. Hey, it isn't bad. But I'm a bit disappointed in the included articles and the amount of mistakes made throughout. I would give this book a four, maybe if it wasn't ironic. It talks about the virtues of grammar and doesn't follows its own advice... I guess that all doesn't matter. What's the most important part of this book? The listing of agents and publishers, right? Well, there are are enough of them, with details, and this book does include a free online subcription to access info on their website. Buy it if you need it.

The 2011 Novel and Short Story Writer's Market is a useful tool for a writer. It contains notes on how to approach publishers and agents, listings for agents, publishers and magazines, trade journals, conferences, and competitions, to name a few. There are, of course, more. If you are new to the writing world, a book like this is a really useful step in the right direction.

My advice: if you buy this book, you probably don't need to buy the 2011 Writer's Market. The reverse is also true - if you have 2011 Writer's Market, you don't really need this book. This book goes into a little more detail with literary journals, but it does not create enough of its own niche to make it a unique book. There is a LOT of overlap between the two.

I bought both of them in the bundle, and was disappointed to see how much of this book is in the larger Writer's Market. This book's strength is its list of academic journals and literary magazines. If that's what you want, then this is a good choice. Otherwise, you are better off choosing one.

A few new listings, but basically you could suffice with the 2009 or 2010 version.

This is what I would call a handbook for the stated fields to find places to get our work published. The information is definitive and does two things: target the agents, editors, and publishers who would be most likely to be interested in our work. And secondly, those who would not be interested thus not wasting our time. The beauty of these listings is the names of the people to contact. A direct contact is also a critical nugget of information.
When I receive the annual edition, I make a list of likely contacts and start work on queries and proposal letters.

The book is excellent and the deal we got at Amazon was superb. My elderly mother has been using the book for hours figuring out where to send her writing and how to send it and looking for agents and finding out what sorts of things different publishers and publications are looking for. It is a MUST for any writer!

A must have book for anyone involved in writing. Well organized and leads the writer step by step from the manuscript to the publishing and marketing.

This book is filled with so much useful information. I absolutely love it! It is so helpful and brings all the information you need to one place. Great choice!
