I have to say I came into reading this hoping to find a quick fix to creative non-fiction writing which would make the "creative" process easier to execute. Although I agree with the overall approach and concept that the book highlights it felt somewhat rigid, especially since writing a novel should have some creative feel to it. That said, I do believe in the core structure since it's the required organizational framework that novels and all sorts of books must follow to adhere to publisher guidelines and to properly enable a story to flow through to the end. I see this as the foundation on which a writer can deviate and add or remove parts once the story is out there using this approach as a first draft...So, as a beginner to fiction I would recommend it to experience actually getting something written and working from there...

I love this book. Before I bought it, I had never written more than short fiction. This book gives you a step by step process for developing a full size novel. I first bought it years ago, before the title change. Since then, I have written 3 novels. (60K, 75K, and 100K words.) Highly recommended.

This is a very useful book for someone just staring out in the hobby of writing fiction. More new writers need to read this book - first.
