4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to use when you need to explain who is a CNE

Seems like this book precedes "The CNA/CNE Study Guide Intranetware Edition" ISBN 0-07-913619-2 published by same publisher by the same author John Mueller.

A word of warning: the book I mentioned apparently is guilty of false advertising. First 200 pages tell you how the certification works, and might indeed help you explain why you want to be certified...

1.0 out of 5 stars A rip off
This book doesn't even deserve 1 star at all. What a waste of money and paper. The authors have no clue on what it is meant by "Study Guide"

1.0 out of 5 stars useless!! Don't buy it!!!, September 16, 1999
By A Customer
The book is about 900 pages and it wasted 233 pages for introduction of CNA/CNE, the cert, and the advantage of the cert, etc. For 4.x Administratin, it only provide 22 pages (and there is 16 pages for Questions). Do you think that good studying content can be included in 40 pages?? You know the answer!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to use when you need to explain who is a CNE, October 9, 1997

This review is from: The Novell CNA/CNE Study Guide, 2/e (Paperback)

Seems like this book precedes "The CNA/CNE Study Guide Intranetware Edition" ISBN 0-07-913619-2 published by same publisher by the same author John Mueller.

A word of warning: the book I mentioned apparently is guilty of false advertising. First 200 pages tell you how the certification works, and might indeed help you explain why you want to be certified.

What this book is NOT is a replacement for a Novell's training course.

It pushes you to attend Novell classes while David Clarke IV's series with the latest and the greatest Novell's CNE Study set, which comes with 2 volums and 4 cd-roms including live version of Netware excells in that area.

Bottom line: For CNE Benefits & Philosophy this is a great book. For real training check out David Clarke IV's CNE Study Guides instead. This particular title gets my 8 only for the first 200 pages. That's all I personally found valuable in it. My advice, find the book in a local bookstore, the later release is called "The CNA/CNE Study Guide Intranetware Edition" and flip though it. More likely then not you'll have 2nd thoughts about it.

This book earns it's place on my bookshelf though :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title, June 19, 1999
By A Customer
This is easily the most misleading title I'm sad to say. I've wasted 60.00. It has no real information to prepare you for the Novell certification tests. e.g. Service and Support, probably the most complex test, gets 38 pages; only 16 that contain info and not a fraction of it covers what is on the test. If you use this as a study guide, you will NOT pass one test.

About the only thing it does is tell you the titles of the tests and you can get that for free from Novell. Also, it stresses the importance, and with this book the necessity, of taking the Novell courses and taking GOOD NOTES. Yet the cover boldly states "Master the material quickly - without costly courses."

If I could have looked through it at the bookstore, it would have been in my hands less than 2 minutes before it was back on the shelf.

I'm stuck. I'm trying to help others avoid getting stuck.

1.0 out of 5 stars CNA/CNE Study Guide, January 31, 1998
By A Customer
This book is a very good book for the beginning novice. It tells how to go about getting a certification and what you can do with it. But, this book has almost no techinical information you couldn't get out of the manual. It's software has yet to run on my computer, and it looks like it is sorry anyway. The book contains "cute" little games and crossword puzzles that hold absolutley no basis on the material. The CD that comes with it contains little programs to "help" you with your certification process, though they have absoultley no basis on the material.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a book to help get your CNA/CNE? This isn't it., November 27, 1997
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The back cover of this book states that it has everything you need to get your CNA/CNE. Once I started reading it I discovered that there is very little real technical information in it and lots of advice from the authors to take Novell training, which is what I was trying to avoid. If you like cutesy puzzles and word games, you'll love this book but if you're after the real details-look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing outcome of expectations, August 14, 1998
By A Customer
This book is more or less an insult to McGraw-Hill's reputation. It has little to add to help gain real knowledge of how-to, hands-on experiences. The enclosed CD is a come-on that simply reiterates what is in the text questions (that is, if you can get the CD to run at all). There must be other sources out there that are more helpful in helping one get real network knowledge and experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not helpful at all, February 17, 2000
By
Alex (The Woodlands, Texas) - See all my reviews
I received this book as a free offer from McGraw-Hill a few years ago when I was new to networking. I learned very little from it. I am so glad I only paid for the shipping and handling. If you are new to the field and need a good study guide, don't buy this one!
