The book does assume the reader knows the basics of eDirectory and so does not cover things like installation, adding users, setting up printing, etc. It is not a book about setting up eDirectory but about troubleshooting and maintaining it.

The authors delved deep into the eDirectory structure and syntax as they explain exactly how it works, LDAP extensions supported, as well as the error codes and what they mean. They also detail how to understand the results from the diagnosing and repairing tools that come with Novell such as DSRepair, DSTrace, DSBrowse, and iMonitor.
