More About the Author

Carol Deacon began cake decorating by accident when a friend asked her to make a birthday cake. The idea of combining creativity with model making and something that also tasted great really appealed to her. Early designs won her gold medals in competitions and even a car in an icing competition run by a food magazine. Carol left her then job in advertising and worked for a year at Jane Asher's cake shop in Chelsea, London. Carol then went freelance and as well as running a succesful wedding cake business and writing books, Carol has designed and written for many food and cake magazines and has demonstrated her edible artistic skills in the UK, abroad and on TV. Carol lives in England with her husband, three children and a kitchen full of ideas and sticky bits of icing as she works on ideas for her next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, if you like fondant, August 9, 2001
This review is from: Novelty Cakes: 35 Imaginative Cakes for All Occasions (Quick & Easy) (Paperback)
These fun-shaped cakes do not require special pans, but some do require some sculpting skills. All are covered with rolled fondant, which most folks who grew up in the US with Mom's buttercream frosting tend to find too sweet and "strange" in texture. Nice book for what it is, but probably not highly useful to most US home bakers. I bake and decorate five or six cakes most weeks, but I wouldn't bake any from this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great color photos; sugarpaste method, July 27, 1998
By A Customer
This book has wonderful and creative ideas for cakes. It is applicable to both adults and children, but beware it uses the sugarpaste method. If you prefer the Wilton method of buttercream icing, find another book; this one is not easily converted.

3.0 out of 5 stars quick and easy....., May 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Novelty Cakes: 35 Imaginative Cakes for All Occasions (Quick & Easy) (Paperback)
This book had several pictures of the overall look but used equipment or unusual items to cut or decorate with. The general ideas are easy to copy if you have the eye for it.
