Editorial Reviews

Through a child's eyes, waiting for Halloween and Christmas can seem like forever. So imagine how special it would make a sick little girl feel if the holidays were magically moved forward -- just for her. Vanessa Marks knows just how that feels. Now a healthy young woman, she has written a children's book entitled November Christmas, inspired by her memories as a very sick eight-year-old. At age 23, Vanessa returns to her hometown to share her story with a group of children at the local library. Years before as Vanessa's family struggled to deal with her illness, Tom, her dad, was determined to bring some joy to his family. When he stops by the nearby farm stand during the summer to inquire about pumpkins and Christmas trees, his perceptive neighbor Jess Sanford quickly catches on that he's trying to move up the holidays. Jess steps in engages others to help with this heartfelt cause, and while doing so begins a healing process of his own. With support of their small town and the gift of caring from a neighbor, the father's wish for his daughter is realized -- Halloween in August and a November Christmas.

Features: "Making of" featurette, behind-the-scenes interview, biographies, credits and production story; wide-screen version, closed captioned, English subtitles for the hearing impaired.

I turned this movie on by accident (when it played on network T.V.) and could not turn it off. It was the most captivating Hallmark Hall of Fame movie I've ever seen. It has a fantastic cast which includes John Corbett, Sam Elliott, and Karen Allen, all veteran actors who are at the top of their game here. The movie seems to center on the imposing grim reality of the sickness of a young girl who is doing her best to survive a life threatening illness. She has no hair or energy but she remains positive throughout her experience but the true magic lies with those around her. This is a film about how people come together in times of hardship and learn to heal themselves while providing comfort & joy to those around them. Friends mend a rift in their relationship after years of not speaking. A girl from the city with a tough life learns to appreciate what blessings she has. The highlight of this story though goes to Sam Elliott & his wife Karen Allen ( I forgot their characters names) who after surviving their own tragic past come to bring happiness and abounding love to the family of the sick little girl by making sure that she gets to experience all the joys of Halloween & then Christmas in a way that fits the family's schedule and not by following the dates on a calender. They also provide friendship, love and comfort to the parents and brother of the little girl This movie made me feel humble and thankful at the same time. I cried throughout it but felt a sense of hope for the future that i never feel from movies these days. It makes you wonder if people like this really do exist and where can they be found. They can be found within each of us. This movie is suitable for all family members and has a lovely ending. It's a must see for all.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer. This is a great holiday movie with a superb theme and ever better acting/storyline that you rarely see on broadcast TV anymore. My only addition, even though I this Amazon does a great job with prices - this movie is available from the Hallmark Hall of Fame website for $20.

Wonderful movie and easy to watch by anyone. Great family movie for all ages. Reminds us all about how important and precious life is and to live each day to it's fullest. Definitely a 10 star movie, but only allowed to give 5.

I'm not going to say much here. All I can tell you is that this must be the sweetest Christmas movie I have ever seen. It was very nice to see Sam Elliot in this soft, quiet role instead of his usual rough and tumble roles. The acting in this movie is top notch but not overboard. I think you will love it.

not to be touched by this story! Cancer movies have been done, most of them a tad corny, but this one was perfect. The acting was professional (the kids did a great job. And Sam Elliot - what a good looking older man!), the scenery beautiful and the concept behind the movie - moving the holidays forward a month - a novel one. The story was not built around inducing the viewers tears with deathbed scenes, but the life of a sick little girl and a neighbor with a big heart. Yes, I will admit the ending may have gotten a bit carried away and there were certain characters we're left hanging on (the teenage girl working on her children's book?) but other than that, this is truly a heart-warming film with a terrific cast! (Not that I'd ever pay $30 (asking price) for this movie! Good grief. Find a Hallmark store and pay $20, if you want to own it.)

I have no new praise to add to what has already been offered. This is a great movie.
Prospective buyers should note that the product details show a run time of 110 minutes. It was actually 94 minutes. Not a huge deal for me, but some people might object. Hallmark routinely shows run times of 110 minutes, even though their DVDs usually run 94-95 minutes.

If you like/love old Sam Elliot...this is the movie for you.
If you like to cry off and on during the movie... this is the movie for you.
If you like holiday flicks, (timely or other-wise), this is the movie for you.
If you like cute little girls who are dying through-out the movie... this is the movie for you.
If you like very good acting, pacing, sound-track, filming, scenary, etc... this is the movie for you.
If you like/love old Sam Elliot...(did I already ask that?), this is the movie for you.

I could go on and on......... This was/is a super movie. I watch it so often, I think I'll wear it out.
My wife even likes it and she seldom sniffs, let alone crys, during a movie.

For plot... give the kid a holiday/days before it is too late. The parents share a similar situation with Sam and his wife.... Oh, heck, watch this thing!!!! It is one of the one or two best movies like it...even better than, "The Ultimate Gift"! Sorry Mr. Garner!)
