samhain separating themselves from the misfits-y sound,
This review is from: November Coming Fire (Audio CD)
this album may be my favorite thing glenn danzig has ever done..yes, the misfits albums are very tempting, but this has more longevity and consistancy to me...with initium, glenn was still working the kinks out of samhain...hence them sounding more like the misfits on that release.....all in all, this album has enough speed, agression and halloween feel to please the misfits fiends, but has enough serious lyrics and overture to please danzig fans.its hard to classify samahin though..some people say that they are the forgotten misfits albums, and some say it is merely the danzig band before they hit it big with "mother." all in all, i think punk and metal fans alike will dig this band..especially this cd.

November-Coming-Like Wild Fire,

This album may not be the best place to start. Although it sounds much more "Misfits" like. Good songs and plenty of aggression as we have become accustomed to hearing from Glenn Danzig. You can hear Glenn's ideas for Danzig starting to sprout. In my opinion, Initium is a better album but this is no weak album and it is good throughout. Dig in and enjoy!!

To walk the night...,

Samhains best cd, not as genious as the misfits, but there are definately some classic tracks on this album. Danzig tries to get more sophisticated and instead of just singing about zombies and vampire chicks samhain returns to the pegan origins of halloween, which probably went way over the heads of their punk following. Samhain have an atmosphere about them that has yet to be captured by any other band, but what else would you expect from the great Glenn Danzig.

This is an band Glenn Danzig was in before Danzig and after the Misfits. This, in my opinion, is one of their strongest albums. It is dark, and his voice just blows me away. It's great. Buy it.

I can't get enough of this album.Note* just because you like misfits you might not necessarily like this album/band. It is way more "horror" than misfits or goth, if you will. a little more rock'n roll and less "butt rock" drumming like in the misfits. Stand out songs are "in my grip", "mother of mercy", "let the day begin", "to walk the night", "november's fire", and "unbridled" (the most "horror" song, i think) so basically, all the songs are great.

Happy Halloween, here's my Samhain Review # 3!,

November Coming Fire was the last "official" Samhain album recorded, and its also the closest that Glenn had gotten to "Metal" at that point. It starts out with the dark track Diabolos 88, and then goes to "In My Grip" a dark thrashy song, with an awesome prechorus. "Mother of Mercy" is alot like "Mother" in that its basically the same chords as that song (!) and its one of the catchiest on this album. However, "To Walk the Night" is Samhain's Magnum opus. Imagine Jim Morrison as a vampire singing a romantic song with keyboards, and you have that one. Stirring stuff."Birthright" is another awesome track, "Let the Day Begin" a very anti-religious song that probably begat some controversy at the time (not to be his last of course) and Halloween 2 is another Misfits classic come (back) to life. I would agree that this was his best remake of the Misfits, as the original was more "monster mash" esque but this time its menacing. The title track is more "death rock" with its pagan chords and dark refrains, but again melodic chorus. The next three songs are not as good in my opinion, honestly Unbridled comes closest to filler on this album. Human Pony Girl is indeed dark, but a little too long. Overall another essential Glenn Danzig album, though not as good as Initium in my opinion.

Let the Horror Start!,

Samhain comes when the seasons shift to the cold and the dead, and NOVEMBER-COMING-FIRE is its soundtrack. With apocalyptic, nihilistically joyous tracks like "Let the Day Begin" and "In My Grip" Glenn Danzig and cohorts once again delve into the netherworld and come up blood-spattered. Grinding, squealing guitars from a frigid hell, Glenn's trademark gutteral, lupine howl, and bass and drums pounding in pagan fury mark a step up from the first Samhain release (one step away from the slightly more mainstream sound of solo Danzig). Most of the songs are classics. The spine-chilling mid-tempo chant "Halloween II" is actually a Latin text for lycanthropic transformation. The title track is one of the best, a rousing, rocking hymn to the season of the dead: "Night calls on summer's end "Kiss of Steel" is JG Ballard's Crash set to a metal/punk tune: But the finest songs here are "Mother of Mercy," "To Walk the Night," and "Let the Day Begin." The first of these is one of Danzig's best songs ever, a song he performed on his first solo tour. A tortured soul seeks respite from his evil deeds ("I haven't killed in such a long time") in the bosom of a dark, infernal goddess ("We all want our time in Hell"). With its soaring chorus and subtle bridge, "Mother of Mercy" will be on your lips as you, too, search for her. The nightmarish ballad "To Walk the Night" is for all those mopey, Romantic suicidal types who just don't seem to fit in during daylight hours. "I have wandered my whole life long And then there's "Let the Day Begin," a celebration of the end of the world. In these times, this passage strikes me as eerily accurate: "Let the Jews all scream Creepy, huh? The earth in flames, and the dark ones revel in it. "Human Pony Girl" is all dark eros and domination; Danzig has called it a kind of Stooges song, and he's not too far off; with its repetitive, mindless pounding, it is a distant cousin of Fun House. This new remastered edition sounds incredible; however, there are no extra tracks nor lyric sheet. The whole CD is 28 minutes long, but any chance to acquaint yourself with Glenn Danzig's view of the inferno is time well-spent indeed.

One Of Glenn's Best Albums!,
This review is from: November Coming Fire (Audio CD)
When I first got into Samhain, I got Initium first. That album is pretty good, but it's only a decent work compared to this masterpiece that I found next!I'm really loving the gothic rock o this album. It's one of my faves. I like this even more than Danzig(the band). This is almost as good as Static Age and Collection I of The Misfits, which is saying ALOT!!! I haven't listened to this enough to give it an inside review, but I love it to bits! If you like Misfits, Danzig, gothmetal, or just like heavy music alltogether, buy, download, burn, or steal this album whenever possible! I'm sure ou won't regret it!
