Hardcover with slipcase. The slipcase is strong and sturdy, but faded and has some light soiled spots here and there. First Edition, 1964. George Braziller, Publisher. Wendell Barry, Author. Ben Shahm, Illustrator. Contains black and whilte illustrations and one color illustration. Approximate size, 9 x 7. Previous owner's name is on front page of book and has been marked through by the previous owner, otherwise, the pages are clean. The boards show some stains left from light water on the front and back corners near the spine, but pages are not damaged and the boards have tanned enough to assist in hiding the stains. We discounted the book because of this imperfection as well. The end pages are burgundy. The book is beige, cloth boards with large black lettering. This book was created following the horror of the assassination of President, John F. Kennedy. The words in this book appeared in "The Nation" magazine a few days after the assassination and this book became a creation tied with drawings. This book was "created to monumentalize those days so that we may not so soon become inured to an unacceptable violence, a failure, a profound sadness." Add this one to you collection of John F. Kennedy books, it is true history! *2BC0
