We are NPR junkies at my house, and there's a never-ending trail of paper scraps with book and music titles that strike our fancy. I caught Morning Edition's bit on the Codetalkers but had to leave before the piece finished. (And I bike to work, so that was that.) However, based on two minutes of radio play, on a news show, I decided that I had to order the CD *before the end of the day.* Excellent decision.
The music is absolutely precise. And yet it's completely relaxed, and fun, and, hey--anybody wanna dance? These guys are having fun the way Prince has fun (when he's having fun). It's a fusion of a bunch of stuff, but it's not overwrought. Go. Buy. Listen. Have fun.

For everybody else to realize just how good these guys are. This disc is just a small sample of Bobby Lee Rogers originals
Tyler Greenwell and Ted Pecchio are the best rythm section on the planet. Solid from start to finish. Nothing beats their live shows, nothing. A fusion of Jazz, Funk, Punk, Rock. Bobby Lee is a great songwriter about to bust out. He just keeps churning them out.

Like many others, I had never heard of The Codetalkers until NPR aired their music. The little bit NPR aired sounded worth buying.
I ordered the CD from Amazon and have been delighted with it. Everyone of my 30 to 40 something friends that has heard it absolutely loved it. IMO it is picking up the old ground of much older bands like the Allman Brothers, Sea Level or Little Feat. The thing is The Codetalkers ran with the concept and made their own sound. I don't know any other bands just like them. Since so much radio pop these days has no musical difficulty at all, it is really nice to hear music that can SERIOUSLY jam.

Bobby Lee Rodgers continues to turn out amazing tunes!,

This is the Japanese version of the 2006 'now' which was released here in the states. The Japanese version features a few tunes not available on the US release (but recorded during the same sessions)but a few tunes are not available on the Japanese release .
VERY strong musicianship and great songs, melodically and lyrically. Rodgers and his band The Codetalkers have always been praised for their energy and are especially adept at turning a pop song into a lesson in song structure and improvisation. Rodgers is a serious musician with a sense of humor a mile wide; expect to hear sensitive ballads and churning rock anthems. This band is going places! This CD is selling VERY well in Japan and receiving great radio play! The label is also releasing the band's next CD titled "Galaxy Girl" either late 2007 or early 2008.

I saw these guys at Vegoose last year and they were one of the best bands of the entire weekend. Their live show is incredible.
This is an excellent sophomore album. Songs like "Ike", "Saved", "Sound Sister" are old school funk. Whereas songs like "Worlds Apart", "Broken Home", and "Sagitarius Face" really highlight Bobby Lee's ability to write beautiful songs. "Niagra Falls" will surely be an all-out party as a live song (like "Lima") and "Tumblin' Down" is already a regular that brought the house down when I saw them play it. If you are looking for a cross between funk, southern-alt-country-rock, and whole lot more check these guys out. Great songwriting. Great vocals (Bobby Lee), and a really rock solid rythym section. Their first album is also very good, but too many Col. Bruce songs, in my opinion. |
