5.0 out of 5 stars Sodium Bentonite Powder March 13, 2011
Size Name:1 lbs|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this Bentonite Powder with less research than I normally put into a product before buying, only to find out that there are two forms of bentonite powder and as usual, I happened to order the wrong type. I was looking for a Bentonite Powder to use in conjunction with Pysllium Husks for a colon cleanse. This Bentonite Powder by NOW foods is SODIUM bentonite powder as opposed to CALCIUM bentonite powder which is used typically for cleansing the body.

In short, if you are looking for Sodium Bentonite Powder at a great price to use for topical uses, than this is the perfect product for you. I am planning to try it out for topical use regardless and order some Calcium Bentonite Powder as well.

PROS
+Great value. (much bigger bottle than expected)
+Good for topical use. (face mask)

CONS
+Not explicit in type of bentonite powder.

BOTTOM LINE
For topical use, you can't go wrong. If you are looking for a detox/cleansing version, get the Calcium Bentonite Powder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relieve your acid reflux! Instantly! July 27, 2011
Size Name:1 lbs
I don't know why I bought this originally--possibly for facials, or a "cleanse"--but I discovered that it relieved my acid reflux.

I coughed for months...maybe even years...without realizing I had GERD. Once it progressed to burning pain, I tried many remedies, including aloe vera juice, baking soda, antacids and diet changes. Bentonite clay is so effective, I was virtually cured in two weeks. Initially, I took one spoonful of "gel" (instructions follow) several times a day, because I was in constant pain. Eventually, I started taking it only once a day and it worked for 24 hours. Now I only take it as needed--once a week or less.

I keep it pre-mixed in a jar at all times, since I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night having a terrible attack.
It usually works as it's going down...instant relief!

To prepare: put some water in a jar and then add a few spoonfuls of clay. You don't need to stir it...just let it sit overnight. In the morning, add more water if necessary and stir. I like the consistency to be like a soft pudding or yogurt. You can keep it in the fridge & the coolness will be extra soothing. However, I leave mine at room temperature; I just make sure to always use a clean spoon when taking a dose so it doesn't get bacteria in it.

This method is easier & less messy than trying to mix the clay into water every time you want to take it. It is also safer, as the dry clay could cause choking or constipation by absorbing water after ingestion.

Because bentonite IS so absorbent, it may be best to take it an hour or so before/after taking vitamins and medications, just to be sure it doesn't interfere with their effectiveness.

The gel is also very effective at soothing bug bites & rashes, and absorbing any irritant on your skin. A friend had an allergic reaction to tea tree oil, and I had an allergic reaction to a hair remover. In both cases our skin was so sensitive we couldn't "scrub" off the oil/lotion...plastering it with bentonite gel (let sit for several minutes, then gently rinse off) cleared up the pain & swelling very quickly. I think it might help with poison ivy exposure, although I haven't needed to try it, luckily!

I haven't tried any other brands, but the NOW brand is very clean and fine. It's a great price, too, for such a significant improvement in my health.
I have shared these remedies with many people...I hope this review will help many more!

UPDATE: Since writing this review, I have ordered bentonite clay from Frontier Herbs, and it was very salty & bitter. The NOW Foods clay is not unpleasant, and has almost no flavor at all. Not terribly important if you're using topically, but since I use it internally, I re-recommend this brand! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Bentonite Clay Powder May 16, 2011
Size Name:1 lbs|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not everyone is aware that radioactive fallout from Japan will be passing over the U.S. at least 9 times in the next 2 to 3 years. I live in Michigan where some of the nuclear cloud touches us as it blows down from Canada. Obviously, governments are not being forthcoming with all the information about the nuclear meltdown. Since most of our vegetables and fruits come from the West Coast, bentonite clay is one way to safeguard against any lingering radioactive fallout on your grocery produce. Even if you grow your own veggies, you should use this wash. We now clean our vegetables and fruits in a mixture of 1 part bentonite clay powder to 7 parts water. We let the produce sit in the mixture for 10 minutes. I have a mini-Geiger counter and measure for any lingering radioactivity. So far, so good.

You can also take this stuff internally for ridding your body of heavy metal toxicity. I recently had my hair tested at a lab and was in the 72nd-percentile for arsenic toxicity. This was a shock because there is no obvious source of arsenic in our water or soil. Arsenic is cumulative, so it could be picked up anywhere through the years. Due to all kinds of pollution, our modern world is not the safest place. I recommend using clay powder to rid your body of heavy metal toxicities. Use this to keep your family healthy. Google the subject.
