For the past 2 years I suffered a uti every time I had sex, regardless of obsessive hygiene. The constant use of antibiotics (macrobid, cipro, bactrim) damaged my joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves, especially those in my arms hands and shoulders.
The physical and emotional toll of the uti's and antibiotics was severe and I was at the point where I thought I could never have sex again.
By chance I read an obscure testimonial online about the healing power of this magical sugar and I am relieved to say that since using d-mannose I no longer get a uti after sex. This fact has changed my life and my body is slowly healing from the effects of the antibiotics.
I want everyone who has or is suffering from chronic uti's, and the horrible side effects of antibiotics, to know about d-mannose. It works.

I am one of those "lucky" people who never had a UTI until after getting married, so I know my UTIs are brought on by sex. Despite obsessively clean hygiene, peeing before & after sex, & drinking TONS of water on a daily basis, I still get UTIs. I've seen multiple doctors, been on Bactrim, Septra, Cipro, Amoxicillin, and I'm sure other antibiotics I'm forgetting right now. The antibiotics DO kill the UTIs, but they usually leave me with other side effects like yeast infections, canker sores and heart palpitations (I thought Cipro was going to kill me!). And they only work to kill the current UTI, but do nothing for prevention of future ones. I was desperate to find something other than antibiotics that didn't involve an expensive office visit to be told what I already knew & to get an antibiotic that yes, will make me feel better until the next UTI comes along, but will also give me other side effects. It was a vicious cycle and it was affecting my sex life in a negative way. And let's not forget how insanely painful UTIs are! I would rather endure the contractions from labor with my child again vs. getting a UTI...it is THAT bad and I believe anyone who's had a bad one knows exactly what I mean.
After HOURS AND HOURS of research over the course of 7 years of having UTIs off and on, I stumbled upon D-Mannose a couple months ago & read so many amazing reviews here on Amazon. I was skeptical but I ordered a bottle & it worked somewhat, but not completely. I already had a pretty bad one before I ordered it so I still ended up having to get an antibiotic to really kill it off & then I continued with D-Mannose for prevention. It worked for prevention until I slacked off & stopped taking it for about a week...and then I got another one. I began researching more about the proper dosage & I think I finally have it figured it out. So...I am here to share EXACTLY what I do to kill a UTI with just D-Mannose!
Take ONE HEAPING TEASPOON WITH NO MORE THAN 4 OUNCES OF WATER every morning and every night. This is for prevention and I am going to do this for as long as I live, even when I don't have one!
For an actual UTI:
As SOON as I feel even the slightest twinge of a UTI coming on, I begin taking 1 heaping teaspoon with no more than 4 ounces of water...let that settle in your system for 45 minutes to an hour before drinking any more, then, after that time has passed, start guzzling cool (NOT freezing cold) water like it's going out of style. I'm talking 32-40 ounces as quickly as you can (within an hour for sure). The importance of the teaspoon with only a little water is that it allows the D-Mannose to really settle into your system without too much other water in your bladder. The D-Mannose adheres to the bacteria in your bladder/urinary tract & keeps them from sticking to your bladder wall. Then once the bacteria is "grabbed" by the D-Mannose, you begin drinking like crazy & hopefully begin emptying your bladder & ridding your body of all the junk. Repeat this every 2-3 hours until you don't feel any symptoms anymore. Once you feel you are back to normal, go back to the prevention method & hopefully you will never get one again! I'm no Dr, but from all my research, it appears that D-Mannose is totally safe to take for a long period of time, so there should be no concern of any crazy side effects like with antibiotics. I will mention that it might make you have to poop more than usual but that's nothing compared to the side effects of antibiotics!
I would much rather be taking a natural simple sugar every day for the rest of my life than an antibiotic multiple times a year for the rest of my life...not to mention living in fear of getting a UTI every time I have sex with my husband.
One other thing...I drink the D-Mannose & water through a straw. Sometimes it tastes bitter so drinking it through a straw seems easier.
I hope this review brings some relief & help to someone!
Other helpful tips:
Avoid acidic foods & drinks
Drink 64-80 ounces of water daily
Increase alkaline foods & drinks (alkaline water like Kangen water) because bacteria has a difficult time surviving in an alkaline environment. See this list of alkaline foods: [...]

Chronic UTI's led my 8 yr old to have to take daily antibiotics. She developed sensitivities to the antibiotics and one of antibiotics the Dr. switched her to caused her to get nerve damage in her arm. Thankfully we caught it early enough and it reversed itself- but it made me even more worried about depending on antibiotics to control the problem. I did a lot of reading about D-mannose and ordered some. It does work to kick UTI infections.
In case this helps others, I wanted to share what I learned about D-mannose. Obviously you'd want to check with your Dr. to make sure what I'm saying is safe for you to try, because everyone has different health problems.
Here's what I learned: Basically D-Mannose is an indigestible sugar that gets filtered out into the urine by the kidneys. The main side effect of D-Mannose over-dose is some diarrhea. It's important to drink lots of water with D-Mannose because it only works by flushing out the bacteria out of the bladder in the urine. Avoiding sugary foods and drinks is important. Also, D-Mannose works best if the urine is alkaline. The reason for this (from what I've read) is that the bacteria that cause the infection can sort of "circle the wagons" and encapsulate themselves while under stress. When they are encapsulating- they aren't attaching to the D-Mannose and they won't flush out. You want relaxed, unsuspecting bacteria- because those are the ones that attach to the D-Mannose and flush out of the bladder during urination. But- if they are in defense mode (e.g. when the urine is acidic)- they don't attach to the D-Mannose and don't flush out of bladder. So- it won't work well if you drink cranberry juice or eat lots of blueberries- because these things acidify the urine. My daughter seems to just normally have acidic urine, so by taking 0.5 a Tums tablet every few hours, she can usually raise her urine pH (unless, like yesterday, she's been chowing down on blueberries :). As soon as a UTI hits, I give her 3 D-Mannose capsules and a half tablet of Tums. Then, every 2 hours, I give her 2 D-Mannose capsules and a half a Tums. She constantly drinks water all day. We keep that up while she's awake for 2 full days, then ease up to every 3 hours for the next 3 days.
Because we've been dealing with chronic UTI for years, I always keep Multistix 10 SG Urine test strips on hand and have used them to follow the results. Now I also keep a full bottle of D-Mannose capsules in the cupboard so we can whack back infections as soon as they start. We prefer the D-mannose capsules because the D-Mannose powder has a weird aftertaste. Hope this helps!

Wow, first off I never EVER EVER write reviews. This product worked so well I had to let people know. I have suffered from many UTI's, and antibiotics usually work. However, the last UTI I had was resistant to three different super strong antibiotics. I was in so much discomfort and was crying from the pain. I tried every remedy known for UTI's: antibiotics taken with green tea, bromelain, huge doses of Vitamin C, huge doses of Cranberry extract, lots of water, etc. Nothing seemed to work. The doctor just kept prescribing more antibiotics while I suffered in pain. Finally, after a lot of searching I found the reviews on D-Mannose and decided it was worth a try. Within 24 hours of taking this product my symptoms were almost completly gone. They were all gone after 3 days, and this was a full blown infection I had been dealing with for almost a month. I just want to note, if you have a full blown infection your best bet is to take a large dose (some places recommend up to 50g) with just a small amount of water. Wait an hour and than drink water. This way the D-Mannose has time to attach to the bacteria and you can wash it away later. Keep taking it every few hours the first day to make sure you get rid of the infection. Continue take a few doses a day after about three days. If it is just the beginning of a UTI you could probably use less. I just wanted to let people know. Doctor's will never tell patients about this because they want you to HAVE to go to them for a prescription for antibiotics, even though they are proven to be so destructive. This product is sold over-the-counter so doctor's cannot make money off of it. I will leave my review on this note and let you make the decision. It works!

Not all D-Mannose products are created equal. I discovered this because I tried a different kind first and the results were okay, but not amazing. I read that 100% pure D-Mannose is preferable, which is why I turned to this product, and I can definitely say that it works so much better. My UTI's are way more infrequent, and when they do come I can clear them up within a day or two. I take a dose every few hours during an infection, then one dose a day in between as a preventative measure. I haven't felt this free of UTI's in years. When they do come, they seem less severe because this product is already in my system. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who suffers from UTI's.

By virtue of being a military wife, I was separated from my husband last year for a solid year. Mid-tour he came home for a visit, and a few days later (use your imagination) I had a UTI. I did some research on the internet and the only thing I could find that seemed like it had merit was d-mannose. I actually tried to get a doctor's appointment quickly, but it was 2 weeks away, and that's like eternity in bladder infection world. So I bought the d-mannose (*I am a Prime member, so I got the product uber-quick) and some Azo UTI test strips. I tested positive for the bladder infection (duh) and immediately began using the d-mannose at levels I was recommended by internet forums, making sure to alkalize my urine with 1 tums per d-mannose dose, and avoiding juice and sugar when dosing. I started to feel better within hours and by 3 days the infection did not register on the test strips (I tested daily), and, yes, I felt normal again! Despite the fact that I have studied natural medicine for well over a decade, I don't recall ever hearing about this amazing remedy. And who isn't a little skeptical about trying something new? But thank God I did, because my intimate time with my husband could have been ruined, and when you don't get to see your significant other for months, you want to make up for it. ;)
In the end, I did go to the appointment because I like to make sure for experimental purposes, and I tested negative for further UTI's.
I have noted no difference between the free-form powder or pills, and I have used both. Nothing works faster. There is *NO* better price anywhere, and usually this product is costly. Not at amazon!
Don't suffer if you don't have to. It is also excellent for prevention too. Anti-biotics...forget 'em.

A doctor told me to use 3 to 5 GRAMS every 3 to 4 hours while awake (no need to get up to take during the night). Usually 24-48 hours is all it takes. He has 90% success rate with this dosage. I prefer to also take it once during the night and keep it up a little longer, just to make sure every bit is totally gone. This sure beats antibiotics. Blessings!
Update: take your dosage on an empty stomach, with a half teaspoon of baking soda to give the d-mannose an alkaline environment - works LOTS faster- usually feel better within a few hours! Then I take a few more doses. I also do this as a preventative - like after I ride my bicycle. These infections are now rare for me!

I have used this product before and it does work for urinary infections, however it has to be used several times a day (3-4) not just once or twice. It's certainly safe and won't interact with medications. It will not work with all types of bacteria the same way, but you don't know until you try it. It's also easier on the stomach than cranberry juice and that's nice if you have stomach issues.

I tell everyone I know who has ever had a UTI to get this stuff! The capsules are inferior because they are filled with a bunch of extra stuff you don't need. The powder is amazing. I have some almost every day. I had chronic UTI's from about the age of 15-20. The doctors performed many tests on me (even putting a camera into my bladder to see if I was deformed). They could never figure out the cause, and towards the end I was starting to get one about once a month. I once even had an untreated one for two months because the lab messed up. Anyone who has had a UTI knows how painful they are. I was never given any pain medications, and those azo red tablets do not do the job. I felt like my insides were on fire for most of my high school life. Eventually I decided to do some research online and then to try D-mannose. Now whenever I feel like I am starting to get a UTI, I drink a large class of water with about a table-spoon of D-mannose. I haven't had to go to the doctor for a UTI in about 2 years. I am extra thankful because I am no longer on my parents insurance, and with doctor bills being about $80 a visit and the antibiotics sometimes being over $100, I can stay out of debt to the doctor by buying this herbal supplement. I was at the point where I could not take the pain of constant infections any longer, and this product really changed my life.

This stuff works wonders for UTI's ! I have had cronic UTI's that I was treating with either anti-biotics or popping cranberry sups like candy. This stuff worked well after a couple days of taking about 1/2 tsp 3 times a day and now just 1/3 to 1/2 once a day as maintenance.
