First of all the product description on Amazon is wrong. You can't be both vegetarian and derived from the chitin of shellfish. This product according to the company is vegetarian.

Second, its Glucosamine Sulfate. This is the compound that all the glucosamine research has been performed on. So many others are using glucosamine HCL or some other compound. Probably because its easier to make. They do this with the assumption that its the glucosamine that causes the positive effect. Studies have not been done to determine that its the glucosamine, it could just as well be the sulfate. So keep in line with what we know now, you should stick with glucosamine sulfate. (unless of course your personal experience says otherwise).

Finally, this is whack, I wish I could just eat some vegetable to get this, but alas, no...

Be careful when changing the quantity. The larger volume bottles are not vegetarian. Unfortunately we opened the bottle before noticing and so we can not send it back. If you want the vegetarian capsules stick with the 90 count sized bottle.

Edit - I'll try to make this review more helpful than it was previously

I cannot attest to the manufacturer's claims of a vegetarian product. I will simply have to trust the manufacturer's word.

I am trying this product because:
- I have light knee pain a couple days after a 1-5 mile run.
- I have moderate to severe wrist pain from spending 12+ hours a day using a computer keyboard and mouse.
- I have light to moderate shoulder pain from irregular sleeping positions and a prior weight-lifting injury.
- I have read that glucosamine sulfate is more effective in reducing knee pain when compared to glucosamine hydrochloride.
- I have an aversion to shellfish and do not like consuming them in any form.

I also tried giving 2 of these per day to a large breed dog with bad knee and hip pain. The dog seemed more willing to play/run while on this dosage and had no noticeable side-effects. However, I am not a veterinarian and don't recommend you give human supplement dosages to canines without researching the proper dosages or consulting with a veterinarian.

PROS:
- Knee pain reduction. My light knee pain became virtually no knee pain. However, I have no idea if this would have the same effect on moderate to severe knee pain.

CONS:
- Wrist pain unchanged.
- Shoulder pain unchanged.
