Pure lanolin is ideal for chapped hands as it doesn't wash off as easily as most hand creams--it also doesn't dissolve the inks on glossy magazines. Used daily on your feet, it will prevent dry callused feet.

Lanolin is sold in two forms. One is "anhydrous" meaning it doesn't contain water and has an initial oily feel; the other is "hydrous" lanolin which contains water, making it creamy. Both are good.

i use lanolin to keep my heels smooth, and to keep my hands from drying out during winter

you can buy 2oz of processed lanolin, with the smell removed for about $15

you can buy a pound of unprocessed lanolin, with the smell of sheep for about $11

natural lanolin is anhydrous, dark in color, and has an odor to it

if you want lanolin that doesn't smell, get the processed hydrous lanolin

I was looking for pure lanolin to wash wool diaper covers. This stuff works great- smells nice, keeps the wool soft and water-resistant. Plan to use it for skin care this winter, too!

This is the best product for the sore, cracked, dry painful skin on your hands. As a healthcare professional I am always washing my hands with harsh chemicals and they get extrememly dry...conventional hand creams have never worked, and often have a rebound effect....the constant use of them made my hands worse! A coworker recommended this lanolin and my hands are in great condition.......even my splitting nails healed and are stronger. One drawback is the smell........it's not "knock you over stinky" or pungent, but it has a noteable smell which does disappear as you rub it in. Its not a pretty or perfumey scent, but it's not gross either. The lanolin is very thick and you have to work it in well.........it takes several minutes...but if you have problem hands that no other product improves, you must try this....it works. I have spent too many dollars on fancy cosmetic counter remedies (the pretty scents, the misleading creaminess, the enticing packaging) that mask the problem.......this stuff heals and soothes your hands quickly with no gimmics.

I'm thrilled to find pure lanolin, so inexpensively! You see, I have an adult daughter who is severely disabled, must wear diapers, and has very sensitive skin. Her doctor and I, between us, tried everything we could find, for years, fighting one particularly stubborn patch of irritated, red-bumped skin. Then I found lanolin! Within two weeks, this patch, which was the size of a dinner plate, had faded almost completely away! I am SO impressed. Nothing else worked, prescription or otherwise. Three cheers for lanolin, and for this place which sells it for less money. I spent 15. on the first tube I found, which was 2 ounces! Thank you.

Just had to comment after seeing the reviews complaining about the odor. This is a high quality lanolin, and it smells just like it should. It does not smell like a zoo or a barnyard, it smells like lanolin. If you are looking for something without any odor, then you should stick to vegetable or petrochemical products (which won't work a fraction as well for skin, hair, leather, etc.). Also: Like all anhydrous lanolin (meaning it has very low water content), this is not a lotion - it is thick and sticky, and a little goes a long way.

NOTE: Check the seller ratings before making an order. One vendor was dishonest - charging my card and claiming a "backorder" on the product when I wrote them (that's a big no-no on Amazon!). The next had the product to me faster than I would have hoped, and was actually the cheapest. Too bad Amazon can't keep a tighter rein on the bad sellers and highlight the good ones.

I've used this brand of lanolin for years and it does not smell of sheep. Mixed with glycerin and shea butter it's the best skin cream: relatively light and easily absorbed. The ratio of glycerin to lanolin will determine it's heaviness, use the lanolin sparingly if you want light, add more for a deep penetrating foot cream.

Gently heat the ingredients to make mixing easier (briefly microwaved or double boiler, never over a flame). A small whisk is a big help. It takes some doing to get it mixed but if warmed up first it mixes much better. And a batch will last a long time and cost pennies per day. Vastly better than any store bought, petroleum based, perfumed creams.

Lanolin -- in pure form -- is very difficult to find. This product is just fine and I'm glad to find a source for it. The fact that it is labeled "liquid" is a bit misleading. Under most temperature conditions it is a "cream." Nothing beats this product for chapped lips, cold-weather cracks, and heel cracks.
