At long last!, October 30, 2007
This review is from: Now Hear This (Audio CD)
This album is NOT by the "mmm-bop" Hanson, but by Junior Hanson's self-named band of the 70's.
Junior Hanson, aka Junior Marvin, aka Junior Kerr, had been in the London production of Hair, and played with Steve Winwood and John "Rabbit" Bundrick, before doing two albums for Manticore (ELPs vanity label). "Now Hear This" was the first, and IMHO, better of the two. After Manticore folded, so did the band, and Junior changed his name again and became the lead guitarist for Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Meanwhile, this album is a Rock/R&B hybrid, sort of in the area that the Isley Brothers were in with their album "3+3", after adding Ernie Isley's Hendrix-inspired guitar, or where the Jeff Beck Group was on "Rough & Ready".
There isn't a weak cut on this too brief album, but "Travelling Like a Gypsy" and "Smokin' to the Big M" (a reference to Mario Medious - the president) are the best.
