5.0 out of 5 stars I've been waiting for this album-and waiting for more. Bravo
I've been a huge fan of tata Vega for many years. There is no one in the business that doesn't know of her brilliance and enormous talent. A gift from above, absolutely! Before "The Color Purple" she had an album called "Earth Choir", brought back to Texas by her bass player, Sammy. He worked with our band for a while, and we sang those songs for a...

3.0 out of 5 stars totally TATA
I have been listening to Tata since she recorded secular albums for Motown in the late 70's. Each of the albums had at least 2 or 3 gospel songs with lyrics and music close to the sound popular at the time. This album was the first I have found by her since 1987! What is different from this outting is that it is all gospel. Tata has a funky sound that would have the...

I've been a huge fan of tata Vega for many years. There is no one in the business that doesn't know of her brilliance and enormous talent. A gift from above, absolutely! Before "The Color Purple" she had an album called "Earth Choir", brought back to Texas by her bass player, Sammy. He worked with our band for a while, and we sang those songs for a long time, until WE broke up.Michael and Candice Hamilton was the name of our group, among others. There was no way I could emulate her, even though in spirit I tried my best. Her songs even then were the most touching you've ever heard and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for showing me the depths of a soul. It has helped me on my journey to be a better singer and person. She is a beautiful woman in heart and talent. I deeply feel the greatest respect for her. I hope the world will now know what we've known all along. Tata Vega deserves to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional lyrics and voice, with lots of variation., March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Now I See (Audio CD)
I opened this CD last night, and have not stopped listening to it today. I even typed out, for myself, the lyrics to one of the songs that hits me personally. Ms. Vega's vocal technique, band, and backup vocals are terrific and specific to each song. This is gospel from a different point of view. The CD is already on my list of gifts for those who would also appreciate it.

5.0 out of 5 stars TaTa in the 70's, January 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Now I See (Audio CD)
I was about 13 years old and remember seeing TaTa on Soul Train in 1976 or 1977, singing Full Speed Ahead and Come In Heaven (Earth is Calling). The latter song always stood out in my mind. After 20 years, I found a cassette of Motown songs and that song was on it! Every time I hear 'Come in Heaven' I cry because the song talks about what's really happening in the world ... "Father, there's plenty of food, but people are hungry, there's plenty of love, but people are lonely, there's plenty of money, but not enough to spend, there's so much sadness and a whole lot of sin ...

Tata is a beautiful woman on the outside and on the inside, and she's still going strong. Love you, Tata!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven Comes A Rockin', January 26, 2002
This review is from: Now I See (Audio CD)
I just LOVE this woman- from her albums back in the day on the MOTOWN label (with songs like " Just Keep Thinking About You ",
" I Need You Now "), to the Color Purple sndtrk ( " Maybe God Is Tryin' To Tell You Somethin' " and the sweet n sexy " Sister "), to this most current CD. You just have to listen to this CD to know she's got Jesus all up in her soul. Thanks to Quincy Jones for getting her back into the studio where she belongs. She has kept herself in the public eye over the years in between these mentions by touring with a religious theatre group and singing backup on other artists songs (With Andrae Crouch- " Oh, It Is Jesus " and " Right Now ", and with Patti LaBelle on Patti's song- " It's Alright Now ", and with Oaktown357- " Turn It Up ").
My favourite songs on this new CD are: her remake of " Oh, It Is Jesus ", " Are You Ready? ", " Just Be There ", and especially
" I'm Accepted ". This wonderful woman has never sold out for commercialism, always stays true to HER voice and for God's sake, will SONY please wake up and realize this woman's talent and give her some cred?! Fairly recently Gloria Gaynor did a club remake of " Just Keep Thinking About You ", it was okay, but it will always be Tata's song. Tata I love you & I just keep thinkin' about you- often!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE VOICE OF SHUG AVERY (The Color Purple) STEPS FORWARD, March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Now I See (Audio CD)
After years of listening to the highly underrated Ms.Vega singing both secularly and as guest vocalist for other gospel artists, it is a welcome and overdue blessing for TATA to finally get her due. I have been a fan of Tata Vega's since her days as a vocalist on the MOTOWN label. Her work as the singing voice of Shug Avery in "The Color Purple" was magnificent! Which brings us to the present. This is the CD that I have been waiting for - from one of the truly anointed/gifted vocalists of this or any decade. Listen and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Grace!, January 7, 1999

This woman has been around vocally for years, but someone (Quincy Jones) finally signed her up for a debut album. This is a great mix of Gospel, soul and dance. Her voice is solid, smokey and heavenly.

Ms Tata Vega, God has truely given you the voice of His Heavenly choir. It is so very easy to reflect on our Lord, and bask in the presence of His Holy Spirit while your music is playing in the background. I have yet to hear your music without tears.

You have a awsome voice (equal to Celine). Thank you for sharing your voice with the world.

Love, In Christ, Trish

Tata has truly outdone herself with this spectacular CD! Every song on it is wonderful! My favorite would have to be "Oh, It Is Jesus" because, after having met Tata, anyone can surely see that Jesus lives in her heart big time! She is a beautiful person. I can't wait for her next release to come out!! Tomorrow wouldn't be soon enough - there's a whole lot of people who would love to hear more of her music! I pray that God will use her in a mighty way to speak to hearts. She is so very gifted & such a sweet, sweet person - I love you Tata - You're SOOOOOOOOO special. You go Girl!

Tata has a funky sound that would have the oldest
most church orientated lady or man jumpin out the pew and dancin down the aisle to the alter. My favorite by her is still from her second Motown release from 1977 "Jesus takes Me higher."
But this album is a must for any old or new fan.
Keep it up Tata Vega.
