I enjoy a variety of music, and after seeing a number of J-Pop music videos at Otakon, decided to look for a few J-Pop CDs on Amazon to add to my music collection. My Amazon search results included the Now J-Pop 2001 [IMPORT] CD, by "various artists". It had no track listing and no customer reviews. I'm not usually one to buy items I know nothing about, but I decided to take a chance and buy it, mainly just to satisfy my curiosity, I suppose, about what was on the CD.Having now listened to the CD, I can say that I am quite happy with my purchase. My favorite song on the CD is "Jet Carrot" by GO!GO!7188. (Though it seems to be a slightly different version from what I saw at Otakon.) And, no, I'm not 100% sure that the name of the song is actually "Jet Carrot"--I'm just going on what I recollect from seeing the music video at Otakon. You see, the names of most of the tracks and the artists are in Japanese, and I don't know how to read Japanese. Nor do I understand spoken/sung Japanese, so I can't attest to how good the lyrics are of most of the songs (there are some English words, as in a lot of other J-Pop, but they're pretty basic as far as lyrics go). I can attest to the music itself, and there is a good variety here. While some of the songs if sung in English would likely not be particularly interesting to me, I can't say that I especially dislike any of the songs on the CD. If you like pop music, you should give J-Pop a try, and this CD is a good one to go with, if you don't mind not knowing exactly who all the artists are or the names of all the tracks! If you're already a J-Pop fan, then this CD is worth adding to your collection. Since I have the CD, let me give you a run-down on what exactly is on the CD, to the best of my ability. There are 15 tracks, and here are the details for each track: 1. Track and artist names are in Japanese. Male singer. More rock than pop, IMHO, complete with whining guitars. 2. The "Jet Carrot" track I referred to above. On the CD, the name of the track is in Japanese. The artist's name is GO!GO!7188. Female singer. Very catchy song that you just want to get up and jump around to. 3. "LOVE JUNKIE". Artist name is in Japanese. Male singer. Song with a fast beat, uses both electric and non-electric instruments to good effect. 4. Title of track in Japanese. Artist name: Keyco. Female singer. Japanese disco music. 5. "1,2,3". Artist name is in Japanese. Male singer. Features some harmonica riffs. 6. Track and artist names in Japanese. Male singer. Sounds like some sort of love song. 7. Track and artist names in Japanese. Female singer. Slow, but atmospheric. 8. Track and artist names in Japanese. Female singer. Slow and soft in places, faster and louder in others. Definite emotion from the singer. You can make out the English phrase "I wanna be with you." This is one of my favorite tracks on the CD. 9. Title of track in Japanese. Artist: Something ELse. Male singer. Japanese boy band? 10. "MOTER MAN", by SUPER BELL"Z. Male singer. Track is hard to describe. There's as much talking on the track as there is singing. The background music is a bit strange, too. You just have to listen to it. 11. Track and artist name in Japanese. Female singer. Another catchy song. 12. "Movin' on without you". Artist name in Japanese. Female singer. Some English lyrics ("Nothing's going to stop me. Only you can stop me.") mixed in with the Japanese lyrics. Good dance beat. 13. "Everybody Needs Love", by Vlidge. Male singer. Obviously a love song. The title phrase is sung in English. Another Japanese boy band? 14. Track and artist names in Japanese. Female singer. Impressive, vibrant voice. I wouldn't mind owning more CDs by this artist, if I just knew who she was! 15. Track and artist names in Japanese. Female singer. Reminds me of an Alanis Morrisette song, though I'm not sure which one. This is one of my favorite songs on the CD. Well, this at least gives you an idea of what this CD is like. Hope you find the above info useful. Maybe someone else that knows Japanese can further identify some of the singers. I'd definitely appreciate any additional info!
