She's grown up...but she's still the same.,
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
People always make a big fuss about singers "growing up." When you start as young as Jessica Andrews did, you have to put up with that. "Now" might make them think, though. That little brown-haired-green-eyed cutie-pie that we saw on "Heart Shaped World" has changed; there's no more "You Go First." However, if you're frightened to buy this album...never fear! She may be older, but she's still an incredible singer."There's More to Me Than You"--there's also a hidden, slower, piano/string driven, (better?) version on here--is the hit that Andrews herself co-wrote; in fact, this song and "Good Times," also written by Andrews, are two of the best tracks. You want some more goodies? Go to the next paragraph. "Second Sunday" is a pop-influenced, guilty-pleasure sounding song, while "Windows on a Train" is it's exact opposite--mournful, serious, and surprising. "God Don't Give Up On Us" is a piano-driven tune about all that is going on in the world today; a 9/11-inspired song, yes, but a good one. "When Gentry Plays Guitar" is somewhat reminiscent, wile "To Love You Once" is suggestive and intoxicating. "You're the Man (that Brings the Woman Out of Me)" is enjoyably serious/flirty, while the hispanic-tinged title track about finally finding love somehow manages to avoid being dull and mushy. Jessica Andrews has a diverse album here; some of these tunes are serious and depressing, some are light-hearted and fluffy. Some have her voice bouncing between the notes with ease; some have her simply singing comfortably, easily. To some, this album may sound a little too pop; however, to country music fans in the known, this album isn't pop--it's mainstream country, mixed with a little alt-country for a hint of spice. Buy "Now", and here the evolution of a great singer/budding songwriter. You might just be impressed...and amazed.

WOW!!! What a resonating and spectacular voice JESSICA ANDREWS has been blessed with! She's 19 years old and this is her third album! GREAT SHOW on PBS' AUSTIN CITY LIMITS - she is a confident, sparkling performer onstage, and her "live" vocals are powerful, soulful and she's a focused, entertaining performer - she is magically enchanting! I cannot wait till her next album.

Where's the commercial success for this album?,
By
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
I'm very discouraged by country radio's inability to play anything but the "top 20" hits. It seems like most of the time I tune in, I don't hear the great country music found on the albums in my collection and I live in Indianapolis with the supposedly highest rated and CMA & AMA award-winning country radio station in the country!
At any rate, this album is a great blend of country-pop and Jessica's delivery of the emotion of the songs gets better with every album. She's definitely growing up! Keep up the great work, Jessica. If you loved "Who I Am" and Faith Hill's "Cry", you'll love this album.

NOW is the time,

Jessica Andrews is back with her third effort NOW, and it's a nice timepiece for this young artist. The selection of songs is quite interesting, there is quite a variety here. It opens with the song she helped pen, titled "There's More To Me Than You", an uptempo "get over your ex" type song, with a resonant message. There is also a hidden track, that is the ballad version of this song. She jumps from ballads to uptempos, with the same sweet voice we've come to love. The title track is an inspired love song that is destined to become a couples favorite. She heartbreakingly sings "God Don't Give Up On Us", a track that is resonant today as ever, with the times we are living in. Rebecca Lynn Howard helped pen "Cowboy Guarantee", easily one of the album's best, with a landscape of sound and a compelling story that Andrews sings convincingly. The inspired ballad "I Wish For You" is bound to become a classic for Andrews, like "Who I Am", from her last album of the same name. There's quite a few sentimental songs, to name a few, "They Are The Roses", "I Wish For You", "Never Be Forgotten" and "Windows On A Train", that work quite well. Not by any chance is the album filled with ballads, there is a healthy dose of uptempo material. "Second Sunday" is bound to become a big hit, you would think it was a pop song with its catchy chorus, but here's plenty of fiddle and steel all over it. "Sunshine And Love" is a pleasant, uptempo, optomistic song that works well with Andrews' warm vocals. Overall NOW shows the continued growth we see in Andrews career as each album passes, she is building upon that growth we first saw with 2001's WHO I AM. It seems more and more, as a young adult, with each album she is putting the pieces together about who she is, and you would have no trouble believing this sweet singer is not being sincere with her words.

Jessica's best cd,

Now is Jessica's best album emotionaly. She puts emotion into the songs and therefore listeners can believe in what she sings. The only song I dislike totaly on this album is Good Time - it seems too fast for Jessica - she always seems like she's trying to catch up singing along.

Jessica Does It Again!...,

Jessica Andrews has done it again. Her new album "NOW" is phenomenal. Jessica does an excellent job delivering beautiful lyrics. It is great to see her doing so well. This album Starts with the first single "There's More To Me Than You", which is my favorite song on the album. "When Gentry Plays Guitar" is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head and you just sing it over and over. "I Wish For You" is a beautiful song about wishing the best life has to offer for someone. "To Love You Once" is a fun, kind of pop sounding song that just lifts your spirit. These are just a few of the songs on the 16 track album, number 16 being a hidden bonus track of the ballad version of "There's More To Me Than You" which is just beautiful. With "Now", Jessica is establishing herself with the country greats like Faith Hill and Martina McBride. "Now" is definitely worth every penny you will pay for the album. GREAT JOB JESSICA!...

There's More To Her,
By Maren Cuykendall (Coralville, IA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
Jessica Andrew's third album, NOW is a country-pop project with songs that span every human emotion. Jessica has matured into a young woman, as she sings about finding self-esteem, death, social ills, children, and love. With 16 songs (including the ballad version of her hit single "There's More To Me Than You") there is something for everyone here. "I Wish For YOu" wishes a loved one well in their life. "I Bring It To You" is about trusting someone enough to let them see inside you. "God Don't Give Up On Us" is about a variety of social problems we face today and Jessica's voice sounds amazing. Jessica sings with restraint when needed, but can turn around and just blow you away with her voice. Every song on this album is a winner, Jessica Andrews is just beginning. Don't toss her off and think she is just another cookie-cutter, because this album shows that there's more to Jessica Andrews.

Almost Perfect Album From One Of My Favorite Singers,
By
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
The first 2 albums from Jessica Andrews (heart shaped world, and 'who I am) are 2 of my very favorite albums and the very first song I ever heard from Jessica was 'More To Me Than You' from this very CD 'Now'
from the first time I heard it I fell in love with that beautiful song and with this amazing singer she is absolutely amazing,I can't stress this enough and I'm a lead singer in a hard rock band and my favorite style of music is hair metal and yet here I am absolutely obsessed with this great "country" singer (much like my absolute favorite singer LeAnn Rimes) I would honestly not consider any of these albums from Jessica as Country because there are no annoying over used banjos or fiddles...just good straight forward well-thought out songs the album opens with 'more to me than you' which is absolutely brilliant and one of the stand out songs of the album it then goes to 'when gentry plays guitar' which has lots of atmosphere and really let's jessica's voice shine from there is the highlight of the album in my opinion, the beautiful ballad 'I wish for you' I confess I had tears when I first heard this song,it's that beautiful,it's a song about wishing love and happiness for someone from there it just continues with near perfection 'to love you once' is awesome 'you're the man' 'Cowboy guarantee' and the incredibly sexy and cute 'second Sunday' and the album finishes with 'God don't give up on us' a very serious song about the state of the world and finishes with 'Good Time' which has such a down home good time feel that you'll find yourself singing along (kinda reminds me of something the dukes of hazzard would listen to,but this is the only song that fits in that catagory) over all this is nearly perfect the only thing missing that prevents me from giving it a 5 star is it has a bit too much of a sad vibe to it,too many slow songs and the cute sexiness that she had in her voice for the first 2 albums is all but gone on this one (with the exception of 'second Sunday) but it's still one amazing album from start to finish and I would recommend it to anyone, not just country fans but fans of all styles of music the upside - Jessica is amazing, these songs are nearly perfect, the standouts are 'more to me than you' 'second Sunday' 'I wish for you' and 'God don't give up on us' the downside - a bit too many slow songs weigh it down slightly the bottom line - this is nearly perfection,Jessica please release a new album! She has the perfect voice to take the music business by storm I recommend this to fans of all styles of music, the songwriting is top notch and Jessica is a true musical force...donutman says so!!!

Pretty good,
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
This album is pretty good. It's not AMAZING but there are a lot of good songs. Touching songs, like "They Are the Roses" and "God Don't Give Up On Us." The problem though, is that while listening to this album, you start to think that all the material on it are ballads. Some of the ballads are even confusing, like "To Love You One." There's also a lot of songs on this album...16 songs, and the sound is more country pop than contemporary country, but it's still a great listen! She has a great and raw voice.
