Review

"Every story in the book is interesting, and Lewis includes a 'bonus fact' at the end of each story which is a mini mind bender on its own." --BoingBoing

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read September 30, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As the owner of an extremely popular "interesting fact" website (TodayIFoundOut) and someone who runs a similar newsletter to Now I Know, I've read or at least skimmed pretty much every major interesting fact/story website and book out there, so I can tell you from vast experience that Dan Lewis is one of the best in this genre. His articles are always extremely well researched and quite interesting, even sometimes when he's writing on a topic I initially thought would be boring- then he goes and finds an interesting twist to it. In some respects, his newsletter sometimes reminds me of the old Paul Harvey, "The Rest of the Story" show at times.

As for this book itself, I just got it in the mail the other day and have now read about half of it and I haven't been disappointed at all. It's well formatted, has great topics and articles, and despite the fact that what I do for a living is research and write about interesting facts, I'm still learning quite a few interesting new things.

So bottom line, if you're a fan of trivia / interesting facts or stories, you'll love this book. And, unlike so many other such books out there, you can be confident that what you're reading is actually true and not embellished, which is a rare thing in this genre I can tell you. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee table book October 17, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As people reading these reviews are probably already aware, "Now I Know" started out, and still is, a popular daily email newsletter. The premise is that you sign up for the email newsletter and in return Dan sends you a daily email with true, well-researched, amazing and entertaining-as-hell anecdotes. For free. Every day. The book is a collection of these same types of stories. Though the book isn't free, it won't disappoint. I keep my copy of this book out on my coffee table and its an awesome conversation starter. (Would also be great to have on-hand for a little, ahem, distraction, in the loo). Great book; Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking the prime spot in my bathroom October 21, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've been subscribed to the Now I Know newsletter for a while now and every day have been fascinated by the interesting facts and stories that come to my inbox. So I couldn't resist buying the book version to support the author after getting so much great content for free.

For a measly $10, I've now got the perfect bathroom reader to entertain and delight friends, family, and guests alike. I'm sure it works well outside the bathroom as well, but I've yet to confirm that.

I know a lot of people who will take pleasure in reading about the amazing information in this book, so I expect to be buying more copies to give as gifts (only $10, are you kidding me?)

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read! October 15, 2013

I can't tell you how immensely I enjoyed Dan's book. I already look forward to seeing know I know in my inbox each morning, so to have a whole collection of new ones was just fantastic. Each one leads in to the next, and though I was unsure if a book form would work, Dan proved that he knew what he was doing, because the book is simply fantastic. Great job Dan!

I purchased this book for my dad as he always seems to know little facts about everything. He tells me that he looks at this all the time and has enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing I've read in a while! October 17, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best sources of fascinating and obscure trivia I have ever seen! If you think you know it all, think again and read this book! Extremely interesting, and even though I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the area of fun facts, I was learning new things constantly.

Did you know Jessica Seinfeld hides pureed squash in her kids' Mac and Cheese? She sneaks what's good for them into what they like.
Would you pick up a history lesson or a sociology paper while you were trying to relax? Surprise! Dan Lewis has hidden the vegetables! His book is as tasty as Mac and Cheese, but you'll be amazed at how much you learn and how much fun you had learning it. (This is why I am a longtime subscriber to his daily NowIKnow email.) If this review makes you hungry for a copy of Dan's book, I hope you'll order it immediately and enjoy every bite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Book! January 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great little book to have on your Kindle. Anytime you need a short read (waiting at the dentist"s office, waiting to pick up kids at school), this book will fill the bill. Quick reads, no plots to remember, and some amazing information.
