3.0 out of 5 stars A Positive Review, From a Grown-Up
First lets get a something out of the way.
1. There is nothing wrong with listening to or making Pop music. Why is it that people feel the need to tear down anyone successful? The Backstree Boys were/are a nice pop group, who made some nice music. There was definite vocal talent demonstrated in the bsb music I have heard (limited to two cds). I am not a boy-band...

Not at all what I was expecting. I wouldn't have even bought the album except that I had to admit that I liked the first release "Help Me". I expected it to be mostly Pop with a poor rock attempt as Jive records tried to push another teen pop sensation on the world and drain every last dime out of him before the craze died completely. What I heard instead was an honest attempt at an artist trying to grow. The songs show some personal growth, but still Mr. Carter still needs to polish his writing skills. The best songs on the album are "Help Me", "My Confession" and "Do I Have to Cry for You". While the lyrics aren't the best, the music and performace of "Miss America" and "Blow Your Mind" are fun and upbeat tunes. Nick Carter sounds incredibly like Brian Adams on "Do I Have To Cry For You." This album brings back some of the 80's rock. I am impressed and not dissapointed that I own this album. I will be very interested to see the young man's next efforts. I love the 80's music of Bryan Adams, Journey, Bon Jovi etc. While Nick Carter is not at that level, he shows potential for that kind of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nick Has Done It!, October 29, 2002
By
This review is from: Now Or Never (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
Nick Carter's first solo CD has distinguished himself from his boy band days. The CD overall is full of a mix between rock/pop! I really enjoyed it and I would seriously recommend it! The bonus CD is totally wicked! It is actually worth having, because it does have some fun things on it, unlike some other bonus CD's with just a music video on it.

1. Help Me- His first single, awesome! Really catchy, and show's his rock side.

2. My Confession - Love this song!

3. I Stand For You - Wicked Song! A very rockish feel. It made me get up and start dancing.

4. Do I Have To Cry For You - A wonderful ballad. It has a backstreet boy feel.

5. Girls In The US - Again a rock feel! A great song

6. I Got You - A different song then the rest, but still has a good catchy beat.

7. Is It Saturday - Probably the worst song on the CD. It didn't appeal to me at all.

8. Blow Your Mind - Again not a very good song. It has a Bon Jovi feel to it

9. Miss America - An excellent song. It's very laid back and enjoyable.

10. I Just Want To Take You Home - Reminds me of "Help Me". A good song

11. Heart Without A Home (Ill be yours) - Wickedly sang ballot.

12. Who Needs The World - Very sweet song. It ends the CD with a good overall feeling.

Awesome CD everyone should pick it up : D

5.0 out of 5 stars Nick Carter's New CD is Amazing!!!!!, October 30, 2002
By
This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
I've been a Backstreet Fan for the past five years and Nick Carter has always been my favorite. When I heard that he was releaing a solo album I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I listened to his new album, "Now or Never," I was totally amazed. Every song on the album is great. Nick has the traditional ballads such as "Do I Have To Cry For You," "Heart Without A Home," and "Who Needs the World." This album though, also features a new side to Nick. Songs like "Girls in the USA," "Blow Your Mind," and "I Stand For You," show Nick singing songs with more of a rock n' roll flavor. This album is perfect for the BSB fan, but I also think a lot of other people will be surprised by this album because it really has something for all music fans. Order "Now or Never" now and you wont be disappointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now or Never HOT HOT HOT!, October 30, 2002
By
Chelsea (Kirkwood, MO, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
After being the heart-throb of one of the most popular groups in the world, the Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter has the chance to say what he's been holding inside most of his life. Keeping with him his pop sound in ballads like "Do I Have To Cry For You" and "Who Needs The World" he also has a chance to rock out his rackin' brain! In songs like "I Got You" and "My Confession," Nick still has a bit of pop mixed with rock to make his own edgy sound. What more is there to ask? Well, in his Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams type rockin' songs, "Girls in the USA" and "I Just Wanna Take You Home," the once-boyband, now-rockstar artist has the chance to bust out some drums and go crazy! In song like "Miss America" and "Do I Have To Cry For You," you can practically hear the pain in Nick's voice! I'd say Nick's album is a HUGE success you're gonna help him make happen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Now Or Later, November 9, 2002
This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
So...
You would like to know more about this album as you are deciding to buy it now, or never. I'll separate my review into several different sessions so you can find *YOUR* own session(s) when you're reading this :)

Review Guide: General Review > *YOUR* session! > Conclusion!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***General Review...
With a special delicate voice, the artist also engaged himself in writing some of the beautiful songs. It's a ROCK album with a lot of drum and bass and I just like the lyrics of the songs. It's not always talking about love and relationship. Take an example:
"Help me, figure out the difference between right and wrong, weak and strong, day and light where I belong." See? It's sorta fresh and gives an extension of music listening. Some party songs can also be found like "Is it Saturday yet? Cuz' I wanna get up...cuz' it feels like a saturday." and Nick even makes fun with his little brother in the verse "...and it wouldn't matter if Marther Stewart was my mother and Aaron Carter is my brother cuz' I'll still be bad!" Some boys-group-style songs like "Heart Without A Home" are included and some fast rock songs like "I Stand For You" and "Blow Your Mind" are enclosed. Oh and don't forget one or two touching songs like "Do I Have To Cry For You" and "Who Needs The World". So it's EVERYTHING. Pick the DVD if possible, too, though it doesn't contain much content.
Last but not least, I recommend "I Got You", "I Just Wanna Take You Home" and also "Scandalicious" (bonus track) for fresh-first-random-listen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

***If you're a Backstreet fan...
You're supposed to have bought this album already! Well, if not, just give it a whirl cuz' you're a good fan and you'd like to listen to Nick's music while you're waiting for the upcoming BSB album. In case you're pondering if Nick gives the same impression as the Backstreet Boys do...my answer is NO. There are, though, a couple of songs which are like group-singing-songs with the style of Westlife (and yes it's Westlife - I just don't know why!), this is a SOLO rock album which shares only some of the great producers like Max Martin, Rami (who are the same with the boys). It just gives you a very different feelin' and mood while you're listening to it. Frankly speaking, if you're a plain-love-songs lover, you may even get bored with it. So I don't really recommend it if you are actually looking for the shadows of the boys.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***If you're an anti-Backstreet fan...
Lol you're probably here to find the reviews who recommend Justin Timberlake's Justified (maybe) instead. Well, just kiddin'. "Now Or Never" is NO backstreets. I mean it's entirely different. You may ask why cuz' Nick Carter is with the boys for like 10 years so at least he has captured "something" from them. You may not trust me but it's time to let the boys group to compete no more. Nick is out to start his own thing and this is a fresh rock album instead of any other boy groups pop music showcase. It "Rocks" so maybe you would like it. Oh yeah, just to remind you there are few
plain love songs" in the album so you may be disappointed if you are searching for any!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***If you hate boy/girl groups...
You've come to the right place cuz' Nick is doing solo. (LOL) There are little "groups-singing-shadow" in the album so don't be worried to try!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***If you have a ROCK fever...
Don't hesitate, it's a MUST BUY!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay...so you still cannot figure out if you should buy it or not? Well, my answer is "Now or Later". It's worth listening, and it's cool for relaxing, for sharing, for fun, for partying and for singing. (But not for dancing!)
I won't say "Never", cuz' the album's really nice.

Get it now, or later!

This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
Nick Carter..He's a man now. You think this is your ordinary CD? You thought wrong. What should you expect from this CD? Expect to hear some HOT tunes!! This CD is filled with great lyrics and catchy beats. Carter sings with so much passion. You cry with him, you laugh with him, and you even feel his pain through his voice. You haven't heard anything until you've heard "Now or Never" by Nick Carter. Below is the tracklisting along with my feelings and descriptions of each song:

#1. Help Me - You all know this one. Nicks first single off the album and a #1 hit. Awesome tune..Very Rocky. Everybody can relate to this one. Everybody has been through a period where they just have been so confused and are just looking for help from somebody.

#2. My Confession -Written by Mr. Carter himself. "I wanna breathe you i wanna feel you near this is my confession" Really cool song!!

#3. I Stand for You- Awesome song, One of Nicks personal favorites. Very American-ish. "Im gonna have a tattoo, Gonna have an attitude"..."I wanna ride a Harley oh on the highway" Very positive song..Basically hes saying hes free..He'll do what he wants..Everybody can relate

#4. Do I Have to Cry For You? - BEST song I have EVER heard. Written by Nick. It will be the 2nd single. He sings this song with so much passion...You can feel the song. You want to cry with him and you feel his pain. Definitely NOT your ordinary love song.

#5. Girls in the USA-(feut. Mr Vegas) Oh yeah!!! For everyone who ain't from the U.S hahah!! Just Kidding. Whether your American or not you will LOVE this one. I wanna get up and start dancin whenever this song is playing. Very Rocky..Awesome tune!

#6. I Got You- Max Martin strikes again! AWESOME song!! "The world on the outsides tryin to pull me in,But they cant touch me cuz I got you"!!! Slow song...He sings with a lot of emotion.

#7. Is It Saturday Yet? -My Saturday theme song!! I think everybody looks forward to Saturdays. "Is it Saturday yet? Just wanna get out Is it Sat. yet? Cuz it feels like a Sat baby! This get you hyped up for the weekend! Really phat tune!

#8. Blow Your Mind- WOAHH!!!! I love this song!! Soo much energy. Basically he meets this girl at a club..She dates him because hes a rockstar and she wants to spend his $$. "This girl was crazy completely outta line...I guess she blew my mind."

#9. Miss America - Another one of my favorites. "Take it off Take it off Lets get it on get it on"..The chorus is also awesome!! Really cool song..Again, Max Martin wrote another hit! Just wait, its gonna be #1.

#10- Take You Home - Nick Carter for you..Just an ordinary 22 year old. Awesome music..Rock.."I jsut wnana take u home, we can make a story of our own, please dont get wrong, I just wanna!"

#11.Heart Without a Home-Slow song...Not your normal love song. The best thing about Nick Carter? He sings with such passion. "And you seem so lonelybut you dont have to anymore" AMAZING song!

#12. Who Needs The World-Another great love song. "Who needs the world when I got you?" I'm sure you all have/had somebody in your life that makes you feel this way.

So, I'm telling you right now..If you don't buy this album you are missing out on so much. Its an amazing album. This man has so much talent. All I can say to you is you've heard nothing until you've heard this man sing.
"Now or Never" by Nick Carter

Do your self a favor and go get the album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Solo Debut, November 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
Nick Carter, arguably the Backstreet Boy most deserving of a solo music career, finally gets his chance to shine on "Now or Never", and turns out a solid debut effort. But rather than taking the safe approach of synthesized and sugary teen pop, Nick has chosen to propel this album mainly with the more grown-up rock sound of electric guitars.

"Help Me", the album's lead-off single, gives the listener a good idea of what the rest of the album holds in store. It's one of those songs that can get stuck in your head, and you won't mind a bit when it does. The album capably shifts between tender ballads ("Do I Have To Cry For You", "Heart Without A Home"), enjoyable mid-tempo tunes ("My Confession", "I Got You"), and energetic tracks ("I Stand For You", "Blow Your Mind"). And Nick's charmingly breathy, slightly raspy voice (reminiscent of Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart, yet still all his own) skillfully wraps itself around every note.

As if Nick's singing isn't impressive enough, he also co-wrote most of the songs on the album. He claims to still be rather un-skilled at songwriting, but he could have fooled me. I'll be eager to see what he comes up with on his follow-up solo album, after a year or so of more practice.

The bonus DVD, included for only a couple of dollars more, contains over half an hour worth of content, including the "Help Me" video, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and more. But either with or without the DVD, this album is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, December 22, 2003
This review is from: Now Or Never (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
I, being a Backstreet Boys fan to begin with, was bery excited to hear about Nick Carter going solo. I had the days counted down to the release of his debut album. When I got it, I locked myself in my bedroom and listened to the whole thing. It was so AMAZING!! I couldn't believe how much of himself he put into the songs. He didn't just sing, he made music. You know something is good when it can change how you feel inside. I was so astounded with how great it is that I played the cd until it wouldn't play anymore. I recomend this album to anyone who likes rock music and anyone who wants something truly amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, December 13, 2002
This review is from: Now Or Never (Audio CD)
Whoa. What a shock, who knew the baby Backstreet boy had a rock soul! I love Now or Never, I've been listening to it non stop for awhile now and I am so proud of Nick. I was iffy about the CD at first, thinking it would be some poppy BSB music, but it wasn't. It has more of a rock pop sound which I love. Great job Nick! A+

I LOVE NICK CARTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) The pictures...OMG!...and the songs...even better! His thank-yous...so cute! :) I've been waiting FOREVER for this to come out! This is an AWESOME album! Here's why:

"Help Me"-his first hit! This song has a nice vibe to it and is a VERY spiritual song! Make this your prayer!

"My Confession"-awww! :) How sweet! :) Nick wrote this. Awww! :)

"I Stand For You"-this song gives off power and encouragement! Another song Nick wrote! :)

"Do I Have To Cry For You"-HOW SAD IS THIS SONG??? :( I mean sad as in sweet and beautiful. Not sad as in pathetic. Nick Carter...OMG!...you'll cry when you hear this song! :( :) Another song Nick wrote! OMG! :) I can relate to this song...A LOT!

"Girls in the USA"-weird beginning. Give it a few seconds...ROCK! Nick sounds SO SEXY in this song! OMG! This is another song written by Nick. :) Ummm...Nick...ummm...what about your girl fans everywhere else??? And your guy fans??? :( They may hate you for this song! You don't want that! :(

"I Got You"-nice, slow, and sweet! :)

"Is It Saturday Yet?"-party song. It's funny and cute how Nick uses his brother in this song! :) This is the school theme song! Another song written by Nick.

"Blow Your Mind"-Nick, you're weird. Nick is TOTALLY weird in this song! Not to say that weird is a bad thing! :) I LOVE THIS SONG! :) It's so...I don't know...weird/cool! :)

"Miss America"-it starts out weird than Nick starts singing and sounds like a girl! :O The beat just doesn't flow! It ruins the song! :( But (yes, but) NICK SOUNDS HOT/SEXY/ROMANTIC! :)

"I Just Wanna Take You Home"-rock! YES! :)

"Heart Without A Home"-awww! :) Sweet! :) I would want a guy to dedicate this song to me! :)

"Who Needs the World"-nice, slow, and sweet! :)

This sounds a lot like "Another Earthquake" by, none other than his brother, Aaron. This album is SO COOL! Get it...NOW!
