5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection of Power Ballads, April 7, 2009
This review is from: Now Power Ballads (Audio CD)
Many of the artists on this CD are known for their hard-rocking songs, but these rockers also have a softer side, as evidenced by this great collection of "power ballads".

Included in this fine collection is "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison, Def Leppard's "Love Bites", "The Flame" by Cheap Trick, "Sister Christian", by Night Ranger, "When I'm With You", by Sheriff, and Boston's "Amanda". The other songs included on the CD are very good, also, and its nice to hear these slower songs from these groups. Although this CD is by no means a "definitive" collection, the producers did do a good job of selecting a wide range of songs from the 80s and 90s that made this time period memorable.

I give this disc my highest recommendation. The songs contained on it are all familiar ones, and they still sound great today. Fans of 80s and 90s rock ballads will want to include this disc in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every bad boy has their soft side, March 26, 2009

This review is from: Now Power Ballads (Audio CD)
This is a great sample of some of the best rock ballads though at eighteen tracks, it only scratches the surface. It's great to have Def Leppard's "Love Bites" and Journey's "Faithfully" instead of the overplayed "Open Arms" on this album. Also, Night Ranger's "Sister Christian", Extreme's "More Than Words", Tesla's "Love Song", and Slaughter's "Fly To The Angels" are edited versions. "When I'm With You" by Sheriff reached number one seven years after it was recorded. Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" also topped the charts although I would have prefered their Top Five hit "Angel". And the lead singer on "When I See You Smile" is John Waite ("Missing You").

This is by no means a definitive collection but it's without a doubt a great introduction to hard rock's softer side. For that, I won't get into what tracks aren't here. However, I wouldn't be surprised if another volume of this title appears somewhere down the line.

4.0 out of 5 stars 80s & 90s, March 22, 2010
This review is from: Now Power Ballads (Audio CD)
This CD collects some of the best heavy metal ballads from the 80s and 90s and it still holds up today to even casual metal fans. Key tracks by artist are: Aerosmith, Bad English, Night Ranger, Slaughter, Extreme, Warrant and Queensryche. I grew up with these bands and it's nice to relive it once in awhile.

4.0 out of 5 stars What True Power Ballads Really Are, April 4, 2009
This review is from: Now Power Ballads (Audio CD)
Obviously the guy above me knows nothing of what a true power ballad is. These songs, with the exception of 1 or 2, are the quintesential powerballads that everyone needs in their collection.
