In fact, it's rare to find a woman tabla player in general. Suphala is all about breaking down barriers and her debut album The Now proves that. This album has some nice vocals with breakbeat, and represents a nice fusion of world elements and electronica.

The album, San Francisco under a groove also has great rare artists like, Tetris, Will Felt, Irina Mikhailova, Superbacana, etc. Really good new jazz, breakbeat electronica. Enjoy.

I'm not sure how I heard this music. I think I was surfing amazon after I had listened to and put The Cosmic Game by the Thievery Corporation in da basket, and came across this. If you're into like, ethnic drumming and stuff, like Richard Feynman's approach to drumming, like Pancho Sanchez and his approach to conga's (though he could tone those horns down a little, sorry trumpet guys) and like the deep rich background of the electronic background, then you should lend an ear. There's just one song that kind of baffled me, sounded like a bunch of instruments being tuned in and out of tune, but it only lasts for about a minute. I'm sure there's a reason for the inclusion of that...that's artistic license.
