When I first listened to NOW 2 I was overall happy with the selections with the exceptions of a few of the slower songs, and when I listened to NOW 3 I had to skip around alot because I only enjoyed about four of the songs but when I heard the songs on NOW 4 it was music to my ears. 3.0 out of 5 stars "NOW 4"; Not 4 Everyone
I feel that the "Now That's What I Call Music!" series is one of the best things to happen to the music industry in quite some time. Especially in our age of illegal downloading; it provides a legal method to obtain great single without bankrupting your wallet. Ussually, the albums are well worth the purchase because they are solid collections of quality singles. That is...

This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 4 (Audio CD)
When I first listened to NOW 2 I was overall happy with the selections with the exceptions of a few of the slower songs, and when I listened to NOW 3 I had to skip around alot because I only enjoyed about four of the songs but when I heard the songs on NOW 4 it was music to my ears. The reason that I buy the NOW cd's is because you shouldn't have to change cd's or skip around to "the good song". I know that is why a lot of you buy these kind of cd's too and if you are this type of person NOW 4 is the cd for you! I features all the songs that you turn up the radio for and sing in the shower. In my opinion there is not a bad song on there but how could there be with artists like BSB, Britney Spears, Blink 182, N'Sync and Savage Garden and songs like "Candy," "I Try," "Try Again" and "Waiting for Tonight" There are songs for all types of music listeners...hip hop, r&b, rock, and alternative. Yes, I will admit it is geared toward the younger audiences but all ages are familiar enough with the songs to have some good sing along fun! Ok, so NOW that you know what this cd is all about listen to it and you'll be surprised how little you have to search for a good song!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, July 23, 2000

I agree with many other listeners. It seems that the Now! products recently have been empty, with a few jewels. BUT...I was in Wal-Mart one day, and saw a sign for NOW 4. Yes, it said some songs that weren't on there (Bye Bye Bye, Back at One, Ex Girlfriend...) But, that was my first awareness. I thought to myself - this could be cool...Then I saw a preview on the television. I couldn't believe my eyes! A CD with Britney Spears? Backstreet Boys? Aaliyah? Mandy Moore? Eiffel 65? Jennifer Lopez? Hanson? blink-182? Joe? All in ONE CD? I couldn't believe it. I immediately pre-ordered it. I was on vacation for a week when it was released. I came home Saturday, ripped open the CD, and listened to my heart's content. EXCEPT...There's only 1 exception. I was really hoping to hear the STOP Remix (the video and the radio version) of Drive Me Crazy by Britney Spears. But, it's just the version on the CD, which is ok, but not nearly as good as the other. That is the only bad part. I would seriously suggest if you like R&B (I Wanna Know; Joe), Teen Pop (Mandy Moore, Britney Spears) Hip-hop (Aaliyah; Try Again) and MUCH MORE, you should purchase this right away.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Much Greater Blend of Hits than Now 3, July 18, 2000

When I first picked up Now 3, I was really dissapointed with the amount of songs that I had never heard before, basically from anonymous artists. What a difference one installment makes. Now 4 has much more well-known hits than Now 3. The only song that I had basically no experience with was Ben Harper. But the rest of the album is pretty good. With song hit yesteryear songs like "Larger than Life" ("Now"'s first Millenium song from BSB), "I Try" by Macy Gray and "All the Small Things" by blink-182, and some new songs like "Try Again" by Aaliyah and "This Time Around" by Hanson. I was most surprised by the inclusion of this song, which was one of the newest songs made for this album. Basically my complaint is that the fact that Now 4 does not include the much better-sounding remix verisons of "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears, and "Waiting for Tonight" by Jenifer Lopez. But the rest of the album is great. If you were turned off by the anonymous songs of Now 3, then you should have faith in Now 4. At the very least, it has a lot more well-known artists and songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eh, it's okay., August 18, 2000

I think of all the "Now" cd's, this one doesn't really stand out as the best. The point of all 4 of them was to put together on one cd all of the most popular songs at the time, and they succeeded. I listen to the radio A LOT, so I'm sick of all of these songs, with the exception of "Steal My Kisses". I would give it 3 stars, but I give it one more because they put "This Time Around" on it, and that has to be one of the best songs of the year. So here's what I say, if you don't listen to the radio a lot, then this is a good cd, but if you do listen to the radio a lot, don't waste your money, because you'll be sick of all these songs. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars The best NOW yet, July 22, 2000

The "Now" series has had its ups and down, even though it's only in its fourth installment. However, "Now - Vol. 4" features a solid collection of winners. From Backstreet Boys to Britney, and Sonique to blink-182, "Now 4" serves us a wonderful dish of pop/rock treats. Standout tracks include: "It Feels So Good," the pandemic dance hit by Sonique, the seductive R&B sounds of Lenny Kravitz on "I Belong to You" (a song that should be played more by Top 40 radio, but isn't), underrated Aaliyah's "Try Again," an efficacious hip-hop classic, and Macy Gray's "I Try." Now that's what I call music...

5.0 out of 5 stars More Complete than previous volumes, August 30, 2000
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 4 (Audio CD)
This one has it all! All the hits from the past six months are here in one convenient compilation -- great for the car, the dorm room, the morning commute, you name it. I'm sorry I purchased the artists' individual cd's in some cases just for their one or two hit songs because this one makes listening to all the hits so much easier and more affordable...Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Entry in the Now Series, July 18, 2000

Who knows with these compilations? Volume 3 was the weakest of the U.S. version of the UK's Now sets, but this rebounds nicely. I believe these sets work best when they rescue good tracks from so-so albums. This is no exception. "Blue (Da Ba Dee)", "I Need To Know" from Marc Anthony, "I Knew I Loved You", Sonique, Montell Jordan, Joe, the best track from Mandy Moore's debut, "Candy" and Jennifer Lopez' "Waiting for Tonight." Train's "Meet Virginia" doesn't do much for me, but the inclusion of Aaliyah's great "Try Again" makes up for weaker tracks (i.e. Lenny Kravitz' "I Belong To You"). Even forgotten songs by Hanson "This Time Around" and Ben Harper "Steal My Kisses" come alive with all the good company. So, while you already may have the albums that the tracks from the Backstreet Boys, Blink 182, Macy Gray, Smash Mouth and Britney Spears come from, those are still great singles, and would make for a great mix tape. Which this basically is.

This is a great CD, with many great artists, and not completely focused on one format of music! I love it! It has rock, (Smash Mouth, blink-182, Train) teen-bop, (Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Hanson) R&B, (Aaliyah, Joe, Montell Jordan, Sonique) Latin, (Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez) and a few other cool artists! (Ben Harper, Macy Gray, Eiffel 65, Savage Garden, Lenny Kravitz.) It is great for the pop listener who likes all types of pop music!

I love this CD! I bought it at Meijers a few moths ago! This is one of the best CDs I own! If you love: Brittany Spears, the backstreet boys, Joe, and Smash Mouth you'll love this CD! Those are just a few artists on this CD. It is extremely awesome! I hope this review helped! IF not I am sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars NOW! for something completely different, August 16, 2000
By

Now 4 became the first 'all-hit' compilation to top the Billboard album charts, and with this line-up, it's not hard to see why. But if you're thinking of buying this CD, you know every note of the tracks you want, and hardly need a review.

Instead, a bit of history: The "NOW That's What I Call Music" series actually began back in 1983 in England. Those albums are still released every 3 months in the UK. The newest, NOW 46, can also be bought at Amazon (Search Popular Music for 'Now 46'). If anything, the UK release is better than the US release. As with all the UK editions, NOW 46 contains 2 CD's, at least 40 tracks, and much more recent hits.

For example, Britney's "Oops! I Did It Again", BSB's "The One", 'NSync's "Bye Bye Bye" and Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" are on the UK version. The cost per track is about the same for both..., so why not pick up the import as well, instead of waiting for Now 6 or Now 7.
