4.0 out of 5 stars The US Version of NOW Got Better!

The concept of this CD might appeal to people with no particular interest in a specific music style; it has all the chart-toppers and popular songs, but there is no connection between the songs and you end up feeling you are listening to the radio. 4.0 out of 5 stars The US Version of NOW Got Better!, April 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
The sixth of this popular series got better than the last. Not all the tracks on this CD will please everyone, but people will find something they like. Unlike the last (5) which was heavy on pop and only had a few good rock songs, this one contains a wider spectrum of songs.

The first few tracks are pop (Britney Spears, Mumba, N'Sync, ATC, J.Lo), then it moves on to some R&B/Hip-Hop (DC, Shaggy, 3LW, K-Ci & JoJo, & R. Kelly), then there are two extra pop songs (by BSB & E&J). Before the CD ends (with 7 tracks to go) the scene moves to rock, including British chart-toppers, Coldplay, new Pennsylvanian group, Fuel, and the group which was very popular rock band around December last year, Creed (also includes Incubus, U2, & Everclear).

This is the kind of record which you buy if you don't feel like buying one CD for a few songs you like or if you don't know anything about new music and want to buy a teenage relative something.

In all, this CD gives a good snapshot of American pop culture between about November 2000 to March 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars =) Definitely 5 star Material, May 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
This CD gets the 5 stars purely on the variety of artists in Pop, Rock, R&B, and Dance. It's another great installment of the "Now" series. There are a few songs I don't care for, that's just me, but it still receives 5 stars in my review. Some of the songs that are absolutely worth getting the CD for are: Nsync > "Bye, Bye, Bye" Samantha Mumba > "Gotta Tell You" Lenny Kravitz > "Again" Everclear > "AM Radio" Britney Spears > "Stronger" K-CI & Jojo > "Crazy" U2 > "Beautiful Day" Destiny's Child > "Independent Women Pt.1" Backstreet Boys > "Shape of My Heart" Shaggy F/ Rik Rok > "It Wasn't Me" (an edited version) Jennifer Lopez > "Love Don't Cost A Thing." I'm sure the other songs are good, but the ones I just listed are, to me, the better ones on the CD. Still 5 star material and one the best complilations out there today (until "Now 7" =]). Keep those music hits coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is Like the Best CD EVER!!, June 14, 2001
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
This Cd is great. I love it. All the songs r good. When u look at the name of some of the songs and the artist u think I don't want to listen to that song, but then when u lisen to it u go oh ya I no this song. That's what it is like for at least 2 songs on this cd. Track 1 - Stronger - Britney Spears, This song u probably heard before on the radio or something. This song is pretty good consitering it is sung my Britney. It is a song that keeps u awake if u r about to fall asleep, in other words it loud at some parts, but not as loud as some songs. Track 2 - Gotta Tell You - Samantha Mumba, I love this song. It's one of my favorite on the whole cd. It's kinda wierd in the begining but when u get to the chours part it, to me, is the one of the best songs ever. Track 3 - Bye Bye Bye - *Nsync, Everyone has probably heard this song so I am not going to tell to much about it. U probably heard it so much on the radio and stuff that it is now boring, Well that's how I feel about it. Track 4 - Around The World - ATC, This is the La La La song. I know it sounds sort-of wierd but it is great when u get into it. It's really kinda cool how people can take the simple words, La La La, and make a song out of it. It of corse is easy to sing to because most of the song there singing La La. Track 5 - Love Don't Cost A Thing - Jennifer Lopez, This is a great song that has a good beat. I didn't think I would like a Jennifer Lopez song, but I like this one. It is a fun song to sing to and again it has a good beat to it. Track 6 - Independent Women Part 1 - Destiny's Child, This song is from the movie Charles Angles and says that in some parts of the song. It is a good song. This song is not as easy to sing to because Destiny's Child sings pretty fast. But this song has a good beat and is a good song over all. Track 7 - It Wasn't Me - Shaggy, This song is really not as bad as it seams. It has a good beat to it. And if you lisen to it a lot you can learn to like it. Track 8 - No More - 3LW, This song is great. It has good background music and it also has a good beat. This song is also fun to dance to. In the begining of this song it sounds kinda like a Destiny's Child song but after a while it is very original. Track 9 - Crazy - K-Ci&JoJo, I really like this song. This song is easy to sing to, it has a good beat, and it also is fun to dance to. This song is a slow song thre the whole thing except for the chores part when it gets lounder and even better. Track 10 - I Wish - R.Kelly, I really didn't lisen to this song all that much, but my mom did and she said it wasn't to bad. Track 11 - Shape of My Heart - Backstreet Boys, This song u probably heard before. I love this song when I don't feel like a really loud song. I also recomend other BSB's songs. Track 12 - Crazy For This Girl - Even&Jaron, I LOVE THIS SONG. I think, to me, this is the best song on the whole Cd. It is fun to sing and dance to. It has a good beat and is loud and some parts, which to me is good. This song is the best. Track 13 - Yellow - Coldplay, U probably heard this song on the radio and it is a pretty good song. This song gets kinda long and annoying after a while, but it is a really good song. This is a slow song. Track 14 - Again - Lenny Kravitz, I like this song a lot. You probably heard it on the radio. It has a good beat, it is fun to sing and dance to. This song can britten up a day because it is very good song. Track 15 - Hemorrhage - Fuel, I really didn't lisen to this song to much so i can't tell u a lot about it. Track 16 - With Arms Wide Open - Creed, This is a great song to make fun of because when the guy says with arms wide open he sings in opon, it is really funny. This song is an ok song it great really boring after a while. Track 17 - Drive - Incubus, This is another song I didn't lisen to much so I can't tell u a lot about it. Track 18 - Beautiful Day - U2, This song is a really good song.It has something to this song that makes it a good song. It is also a good song because it starts out slow and quiet and then when u get to the chours part is is loud and cool song. Track 19 - AM Radio - Everclear, This is another song I didn't lisen to all that much so I can't tell u anything about it.

I am done. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I know this review is really long, but I hope it helped. Bye.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Of A Mixture, April 3, 2001
By
stephen Garry (Manchester England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
Now 6 has more of a varied musical range than Now 5, which i think will appeal to a larger audience. Now 6 contains artists like Brittny Spears, Smantha Mumba and Destinys Child, but it also contains artists like Coldplay(excellent song), Lenny Kravitz and U2. Its good for a cd to have a varied range as it gives its listeners the change to listen to new music without having to buy all of the artists individual albums. (Best Now To Date)

4.0 out of 5 stars I review: NOW 6, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
NOW 6:

1. Britney Spears, Stronger: The usual Britney Spears junk. Though the song gets a fairly high grade just for not being a ballad. Britney Spears ballads make baby children cry. (C-)

2. Samantha Mumba, Gotta Tell You: More synthy-bubblegum pop. Not as bad as Britney, but twice as generic. (C-)

3. N*Sync, Bye Bye Bye: The height (or bottom) of boyband *cough*glory*cough* in all it's embarrassingly precise melody. (F+)

4. ATC, Around The World: Mindlessly catchy but daft and devoid of actual listening value. (C)

5. Jennifer Lopez, Love Don't Cost A Thing: Unimpressive, flavor of the week pop music with unremarkably generic vocals. (D-)

6. Destiny's Child, Independent Women: Fun, catchy, though mindlessly airheaded pop-R&B. (B)

7. Shaggy, It Wasn't Me: Don't think about the writing and instead submit yourself to Shaggy's otherwise ludicrously addictive guilty pleasure. (A strong B+)

8. 3LW, No More: Mediocre, forgettable pop-R&B track by mediocre, forgettable one-hit wonders. (F+)

9. K-Ci & JoJo, Crazy: Overplayed though it was back then, this is a wonderfully catchy pop-R&B ballad, a neccesary break from the girl groups otherwise dominating the genre at that time. (B+)

10. R. Kelly, I Wish: Dull, easily forgettable R&B pap that's made all the more ironic by his legal troubles. (F)

11. Backstreet Boys, Shape Of My Heart: Forgettable boyband ballad made worse by the amount of BSB songs that are exactly the same. That songwriting technique would later be employed by Nickelback. (D-)

12. Evan & Jaron, Crazy For This Girl: At times infectious but largely average teen pop that's nice for the duration but fails to make an impression. (B-)

13. Coldplay, Yellow: Insanely infectious love song with trademark crooning and simple but melting lyrics. Chris Martin, the world. The world, Chris Martin. I think you've come to have a good relationship. (A)

14. Lenny Kravitz, Again: A sweet soft-rock ballad that's forgiven for it's sap for it's sheer timelessness. And if it makes you happy, there's always the video. Women rejoice. (A)

15. Creed, With Arms Wide Open: Not only is it overplayed, it introduced the world to Creed, who's motto is obviously "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Unusually decent when paired with Fuel though. (C+)

16. Fuel, Hemmorage: Not as good as Falls On Me, but an excellent, if derivative, single. (A strong B+)

17. Incubus, Drive: Brandon Boyd's career-making hit in all it's glory. Good lyrics, vaguely memorable music. And they have their pie and eat it too. (A-)

18. U2, Beautiful Day: The sporting-event anthem of 2001 and a classic to this day. What a song! (A+)

19. Everclear, AM Radio: Catchy as heck anthem about nostalgia. I never liked disco... (A-)

Overall: A near-flawless rock lineup saves a terrible beginning.
The Good: Shaggy, K-Ci & JoJo, Coldplay, Lenny Kravitz, Incubus, U2, Everclear.
The Bad: N*Sync, Jennifer Lopez, 3LW, R. Kelly, Backstreet Boys.

3.0 out of 5 stars Now that's what I call confusing!, April 4, 2001
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
The concept of this CD might appeal to people with no particular interest in a specific music style; it has all the chart-toppers and popular songs, but there is no connection between the songs and you end up feeling you are listening to the radio. The first 12 tracks are popular songs including Billboard #1 Hits from previous months; and I have the feeling the other 7 have been added to this compilation to give a more sophisticated look. I think it's pretty hard to recommend a song (depending on your taste you probably will like couple of them anyway!), this CD is definetely worth the money though.

5.0 out of 5 stars And I thought Now 5 was the best ..., June 29, 2001
By
"mister_music" (SAVANNAH, GEORGIA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
Now 6 is definetely the best CD in the Now series yet! I love it! Most of the songs are really good. I love ATC's "Around The World", as well as K-Ci & JoJo's "Crazy" because they have great lyrics and music. I also like Jennifer Lopez's song,, as well as Coldplay's and Destiny's Child's "Independent Women Part I", which is really good. Samantha Mumba has absolutely got potential, and I really like Incubus' "Drive", because I love the lyrics a lot. But my 3 favorite songs are as follows: 3) Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands), because the lyrics rock as does the music. 2) 3LW's "No More" because it is just a great song! But number 1 is Crazy For This Girl by Evan and Jaron, because it has awesome lyrics, awesome music, an awesome beat, and Evan and Jaron have got GREAT singing voices!

But there's a downside...'NSYNC's song, even if it's good, is VERY old (1 year and 2 months old when this was released!), some might find Shaggy's song inappropriate (but I still like it), and I HATE Creed's "With Arms Wide Open", mainly because of bad lyrics, scratchy voices, and horrid music! All the other songs not mentioned here are good.

Still, the upside makes up for the downside very well, and it's a great album for the pop listener, and I highly recommend this, as well as all other Now albums (except Now 3.) I love this album, and I can't wait for Now 7!

I know that they try to please everyone with these compilation CDs, but why did they have to include 'It wasn't Me', which is totally inappropriate for pre-teens who often buy Now CDs. Needless to say I will not be buying this for my nine year old as I originally planned to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kid Approved Now 6, April 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 6 (Audio CD)
A version of NOW 6 is available without the Shaggy song, which some parents may not feel appropriate for their pre-teen audiece. This "Kid Safe" version only has 18 tracks instead of 19. This version is advertised on NICK and come with a bonus cd carrying case. Currently, it is only sold through an 800 number. Perhaps Amazon could make 18 track version available for parents purchasing for their kids.
