I compiled a list of the peak positions of every song according to the billboard hot 100 to see if it is a true hits compilation. If it was at number 1, i will include how many weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Now CD!, November 24, 2001
By
Erin Jackson (N. MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
This CD is the best in the NOW collection so far! It has some great songs on here especially the first 11 ones! Here's my rating for all 20 songs:

1. "Bootylicious"- Destiny's Child: This song is getting kind of old, but still one of their greatest songs. I would've liked it if they put their song "Emotions" on here. 4.5/5 stars

2. "Pop"- N'Sync: This is one of the best songs by this group so far! 5/5 stars

3. "I'm Real"- Jennifer Lopez: This song is good but the version with Ja Rule is good, too! A wonderful song! 5/5 stars

4. "Stutter"- Joe and Mystikal: This song is average, but definitely not one of my favorites on here. 3.5/5 stars

5. "Someone To Call My Lover"- Janet Jackson: One of her best songs after "All For You" which is on NOW 7. 5/5 stars

6. "AM to PM"- Christina Milian: This song is a good dance song! 4/5 stars

7. "A Little Bit"- Jessica Simpson: This is an awesome song by her after her song "Irrestible". 5/5 stars

8. "Crush"- Mandy Moore: This song is beautiful even though I don't like her that much. 4/5 stars

9. "Rock The Boat"- Aaliyah: She has a beautiful singing voice and it's so sad to hear that she died. I'm glad they put this song on here because it's going to be the last song they put in the NOW collections. 5/5 stars

10. "U Got It Bad"- Usher: This song is beautiful! 5/5 stars

11. "More Than That"- Backstreet Boys: This song is old but it's very beautiful. 5/5 stars

12. "Clint Eastwood"- The Gorillaz: This song is just ok, but definitely not one of the best on here. 3/5 stars

13. "Start The Commotion"- The Wise Guys: This is another good song but not one of the ones I like. 3/5 stars

14. "Me Myself and I"- Jive Jones: This song is good and good to dance to. 3.5/5 stars

15. "I'm A Believer"- Smash Mouth: This song is a lot better than the Monkees' version. 4/5 stars

16. "Fat Lip"- Sum 41: I don't like this song at all. I wonder how it became so popular. 2/5 stars

17. "The Rock Show"- Blink-182: This song is good even though I really don't like this group that much. 3/5 stars

18. "Bad Day"- Fuel: I don't like this group at all and it's a really bad song. 1.5/5 stars

19. "Be Like That"- 3 Doors Down: This is another ok song that I don't like that much. 2/5 stars

20. "Walk On"- U2: This song is good to listen to! 3.5/5 stars

So all the songs seem pretty good on here except for a few of them. It's a good CD and I can't wait for NOW 9!

4.0 out of 5 stars Now 8; get it Now, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
This is the only Now C.D. I've found so far that has had enough songs I like on it for me to buy it. The song I recommend most on this C.D. is track #12 (Clint Eastwood), which has an incredibly good lyrical flow and a simple yet perfect piano accompaniment in the background. There is also the energetic "Fat Lip" from Sum 41, which has many different types of music jammed in one (there is an almost rap-like jam in some sections, a jog-paced section, a soft part near the end, and of course the fast-paced main chorus). Aside from these songs, I would also recommend "Start the Commotion": a song that samples horn blares, bass guitars, 60's singers, an organ, and much more into an entertaining blend. "Me Myself & I" is also pretty good for its interesting noise accompaniments and bouncing melody, and Smash Mouth's rendition of "I'm a Believer" turns an enjoyable Oldie into a still enjoyable modern version with a catchy surf music beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOME OF THE BEST AND COOLEST POP OF TODAY ON ONE CD!, May 25, 2002
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
I always buy the Now compilations to keep with the trend of dispensible pop songs and with every new release, they somehow manage to better themselves. It really is astounding as to how much quality pop these CDs contain. The history of pop is being condensed onto these silvery platters and it's great for the consumer, it really is. This CD is always in the CD player in my car so I bought another one for the house, except my nine-year old son keeps on stealing it. We have nothing else in common. Everyone can recognise good music and this is it. Buy today and be happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Has its strengths, November 26, 2001
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
Now 8 is probably one of the better cds in the popular Now That's What I Call Music series, but there are a few tracks that should definitely have been removed and replaced with an artist as fun to listen to as Britney or Madonna.

The songs by Joe, U2, and Fuel are definitely the weakest points in this collection. They are all painful to listen to...I had to fast forward through them to avoid having a nervous breakdown. "If I Could be Like that" almost gets the same reaction.

The cd makes up for these yucky songs with some great songs like those by Janet Jackson, Mandy Moore, Aaliyah, Gorillaz, Jive Jones, Jessica Simpson, and Smash Mouth. I love the Now series because it give me a chance to own songs from cds that I would never otherwise purchase. For example, I like only one song off of the Gorillaz cd, so why would I ever buy the whole thing?

Thank you Now that's What I Call Music.

3.0 out of 5 stars It Could Have Been So Good..., November 24, 2001
By
Setting_Sun (Music Land, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
It's obvious that the folks at "Now" want to appeal to a broader fan base. And that could be a good thing--but the "new" stuff they're bringing in is not quality.

1) "Bootylicious"--If you've heard it before, you've heard it a million times. In my opinion, it lacks DC's usual sparkle and creativity. "Emotions" is a much better song.
2) "Pop"--Again, we've all heard it before. I wouldn't rank it as one of my fave 'N Sync songs, but it's all right. A good party song--the FIRST 50 billion times you hear it.
3) "I'm Real"--This is really a toss-up. I do like the "Murder" remix, but it's a little refreshing to hear the original version of the song (which lacked the airplay/popularity of the remix).
4) "Stutter"--I'm sure many appreciate the little rap "interlude" in the middle; in a weird way, it makes sense where it is, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant to listen to.
5) "Someone To Call My Lover"--This is a tightly produced, smooth song. Very nice contribution from Janet. I favor the original version over the remix.
6) "AM to PM"--This is a nice club song, and I do believe Christina does that "whoo" thing as well (and as often!!!!) as a young(er) Michael Jackson. This is cool, but your head starts to ache after a while.
7) "A Little Bit"--This was, I felt, the big surprise on this album. The lyrics are sometimes hard to understand, but when you decipher them, they aren't mindless. The beats are pretty cool, and it's a good dance song with your significant other.
8) "Crush"--One of Mandy Moore's best endeavors, this song should have charted [more than it did]. The lyrics ring true to so many of us, and she has a good voice for this song.
9) "Rock The Boat"--This is a calming song, and it fits Aaliyah's (God rest her soul) tranquil voice very well.
10) "U Got It Bad"--This is just an amazing song. Usher has grown so much! I love the wind "intro" in the beginning. Usher manages to give out love advice while keeping it the best slow jam to come out in a while.
11) "More Than That"--This song was overplayed and therefore lost a lot of its freshness. I didn't think it was one of BSB's best to begin with, and it is just downright annoying now.
12) "Clint Eastwood"--This song heralds the beginning of the end of this album. Just awful...nothing in it makes sense, the voices are extremely strange...I won't go through the list for you. Hate this.
13) "Start The Commotion"--A little too long, at times a bit monotonous, but an O.K. jam.
14) "Me, Myself, & I"--WHY???? WHY????? WHY???? This is just AWFUL! JIVEjones thinks he's ghetto but this is pure suburban wannabe. He brags about his constant drug use throughout the song...his voice scratches on your nerves because you can't tell whether it's his real voice or not. Lose the feminine sound, Jive. And get some better lyrics--I'm not impressed yet.
15) "I'm A Believer"--After the last track, this is like a breath of fresh air. Smash Mouth works their spell again; does everything they touch turn to gold?
16) "Fat Lip"--Although the abortion reference will not be appreciated by pro-lifers, I do like this song. These don't seem like bad guys, and that counts for a lot in the metal world. I almost like "In Too Deep" better, though--that song rocks!
17) "The Rock Show"--I REALLY don't like Blink-182. They are childish and immature (I'm sure they would cheer if they read this) and can't REALLY expect to ever be taken seriously as musicians. While I'm sure their latest endeavor, "Stay Together For The Kids," had good intentions at its heart, it comes across as angry and downright WEIRD--a pretty good description of Blink. Quite a few of their songs are strange, and I think they don't always understand how young people interpret their lyrics.
18) "Bad Day"--Slow, dark-voiced jam that is kind of awkward to listen to when you're in a Britney Spears mood; but if you're feeling more Dave Matthews or are having a bad day, listen to this. It fits and is not overproduced.
19) "Bad Day"--This is all right. Not great (I liked "Kryptonite" much better) but it's okay. Melancholy at its heart (just like "Kryptonite") but without the other song's sparkle.
20) "Walk On"--What a strange choice. I like U2, but I can't understand a word Bono is saying. It's a good song to end with, but not necessarily a good song.

All in all, this is one of those albums that you will probably either love or hate. I'm trying to decide where I am on that scale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Not the Best, November 23, 2001
By
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 8 (Audio CD)
This installment of the "Now" series definately has a lot of genres. Pop (BSB, Jessica, Joe), R&B (Usher, Aaliyah, Destinys Child)and Punk/Rock (Sum 41, Blink 182, 3 Doors Down) The standout tracks on this album are definately Aaliyah's unique and soothing ballad "Rock the Boat", the overplayed, but still awesome DC track "Bootylicious", and the gorgeous, soaring ballad "More Than That" by BSB. The tracks I don't care for are the punk tracks, but I'm a "pop" person so it's just a matter of tastes. If u like punk music then you'll love them. I also despise the *N Sync track "Pop." Timberlake's vocals make me cringe and the song is annoying. So, not at all a bad buy. I think Now 7 and was better, but this definately has more of a variety so check it out!
