They Keep Getting Worse,
By Aaron (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 11 (Audio CD)
When the "Now" series first started, I was a big fan. The first "Now" CD was terrific and they were all pretty good up until about Now 8. Ever since that one, they've gone downhill. Don't get me wrong. Now 11 isn't a complete flop. It still has its moments...1. Hot In Herre: (2/5) Blah. One of the most horrible and overplayed songs of last year. How did this stinker ever get to #1? I'm so sick of rap, I could barf. 2. Nothin: (2/5) So far, not off to a good start. Why'd they kick it off with rap tracks? 3. Gansta Lovin: (2.5/5) Overplayed and wasn't that great to begin with. Eve just trying to copy the success of "Let Me Blow Your Mind." 4. Feel It Boy: (3/5) It's nice to hear from Janet and the song really isn't that bad. An ok addition and nice summer song. 5. Days Go By: (3/5) At least it's not rap. Cool sort pf trance song, but nothing special. 6. Love At First Sight: (5/5) FINALLY a decent track. Kylie's second smash dance single of last year is peppy and upbeat and one of the best tracks here *if not THE best.* 7. Objection: (4/5) Wasn't as big as Shakira's previous two hits which is a shame because it's a good song. Love the instrumentals. 8. Underneath It All: (5/5) A huge hit for No Doubt was overplayed, but is too great of a song to mind. Everything about it is great. 9. Barenaked: (4/5) This song wasn't a hit, and it's a shame. It's a cool song. 10. Ordinary Day: (5/5) Another keeper. I was in love with this song last year and even though the girl can't sing live, the recording is excellent. 11. Landslide: (4/5) A pop hit for the Dixie Chicks. Who woulda thought? Great song and I'm glad to see it doing so well. Nice addition. 12. I Care 4 U: (5/5) How I miss Aaliyah. The best track from her 2001 self-titled album. Beautiful and mesmerizing vocals. 13. Stingy: (1/5) I have no idea why this song made it on here. 14. Don't Know Why: (4/5) Sweet, soothing song. One of the more unique songs of the last year. A breath of fresh air out of the rap-dominated music world. 15. Hero: (2/5) Another "Hero" song. We really didn't need another one *no pun intended.* 16. Running Away: (3.5/5) Surprisingly not too bad rock track. Better than their previous song. 17. In My Place: (2/5) This was not needed on here. It wasn't even a hit. 18. One Last Breath: (1/5) Overplayed to the point that I absolutely cannot stand it. It wasn't that great to begin with but radio butchered it. 19. Somewhere Out There: (2/5) No, it's not the Fivel song. Although I'd rather hear it then this train wreck. 20. Everyday: (4/5) Unfortunately, wasn't much of a hit. It's a good song, though. Their new one "Misunderstood" is even better." I recently saw the tracklisting for Now 12 and I'll warn you...it's worse than this one. A real shame. This series was once decent.

Definitly not the best NOW,
By Kara "kfoster_xyz" (San Antonio, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 11 (Audio CD)
Here's my review for the 11th edition of the NOW music series. I am a hip hop fan but I buy NOW's. I wasn't even planning on getting NOW 11 but my sister got it for me. This is one of the first NOWs to not have Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, or NSYNC.1. "Hot In Herre" Nelly: This was the song of the summer. It has a good beat (the Neptunes made it). It is kind of nice to listen to now, because it hasn't been on the radio in a while. Is on NOW 11 because: It was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for some time. Grade: B+ 2. "Nothin'" N.O.R.E.: THIS was more overplayed than a lot of songs on this album. It may not seem overplayed, but since I am a hip hop fan, the hip hop radio station WOULD NOT stop playing it. Eventually I was so sick of it. Is on NOW 11 because: I think it made #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Grade: C- 3. "Gangsta Lovin'" Eve feat. Alicia Keys: Both Eve and Alicia Keys bring good vocals. It's a very good song, very well put together. The writing is good too. It was on the verge of being extremely overplayed but luckily the radio's slowed down the playing before it went crazy. Is on NOW 11 because: #2 on Billboard Hot 100. Grade: A- 4. "Feel It Boy" Beenie Man feat. Janet: I like the beat. Janet brings good vocals. I really like her part, but Beenie Man is not that great. Is on NOW 11 because: Janet Jackson is on it Grade: B- 5. "Days Go By" Dirty Vegas: I'm not one for "dance" music, where we repeat the same line over and over for 8 minutes. The video was very good though, I must say. Is on NOW 11 because: You have to have a "dance" track on a NOW CD. Grade: C+ 6. "Love At First Sight" Kylie Minogue: I like this, and I like it more than "Can't Get You Out of My Head". Is on NOW 11 because: see the Dirty Vegas reason Grade: A- 7. "Objection (Tango) Shakira: Ugh... the vocals are terrible on this song. I remember Simon Cowell (from American Idol) on TRL saying she sounded like "Ricky Martin with a high voice" when he saw this video. Is on NOW 11 because: Gotta fit your Latina in here somewhere, and J.Lo was getting divorced and wasn't fitted in ;) Grade: D 8. "Underneath It All" No Doubt feat. Lady Saw: EVERY TIME I turn on MTV (which is often) this video is playing. It has to stop. The song is so nice and overplaying is messing it up. Is on NOW 11 because: #3 on Billboard Hot 100 when I wrote this. Grade: A- (if it were not overplayed) C (because it is) 9. "Barenaked" Jennifer Love Hewitt: The video was bad, this song is bad, she CAN sing, she just needs better song selection or something. Could you imagine yourself grooving this? (barenaked... and I... just can't it... blah blah blah) But I admit this is better than the Shakira song. Is on NOW 11 because: I don't know, really, it was never a hit Grade: C- 10. "Ordinary Day" Vanessa Carlton: One of the best songs on the album, I don't even like this kind of music, but I like it. Is on NOW 11 because: It was a hit and it was on MTV a lot. Grade: A 11. "Landslide" Dixie Chicks: Hmmm I don't like this stuff. Dixie Chicks are pretty cool though. Is on NOW 11 because: country/pop Grade: I won't grade this because I have skipped it and don't want to be unfair. 12. "I Care 4 U" Aaliyah: Beautiful song, beautiful singer. Aaliyah lives forever. Is on NOW 11 because: we are paying respects to a great singer. Grade: A- 13. "Stingy" Ginuwine: Average R&B Is on NOW 11 because: It's R&B Grade: B- 14. "Don't Know Why" Norah Jones: Soooo slow it drives me nuts. Is on NOW 11 because: The album is doing well. Grade: B- 15. "Hero" Chad Kroeger feat. Josey Scott: Here we introduce the heavy rock. This song is for Spiderman, it's nice, "inspirational" for whoever. Is on NOW 11 because: #3 peak on Hot 100. Grade: A 16. "Running Away" Hoobastank: Even though I am a hip hop fan and I always will be, I am really into this song. I don't know why, but it's perfect. Is on NOW 11 because: Kind of a new band? Grade: A+ (best one on the CD) 17. "In My Place" Coldplay: Kind of a different song. Very slow, but it's nice. Is on NOW 11 because: Slow rock. Grade: B- 18. "One Last Breath" Creed: This video was on MTV so much, I don't know why, it was really cheap and everything in the video followed the words of the song. ("I'm 6 feet from the edge" well yes he is about to fall off the cliff) Is on NOW 11 because: #5 (?) peak on Hot 100 Grade: B 19. "Somewhere Out There" Our Lady Peace: This sounds like another band but I can't put my finger on who it is. Is on NOW 11 because: it's a new rock band Grade: B 20. "Everyday" Bon Jovi: Cool... I guess? I don't know what to give this. Is on NOW 11 because: It's Bon Jovi. Grade: C+ IN GENERAL: BEST SONGS: (received an A- to an A+)

One of my favorite in the series!,

This is an accurate representation of music in the late summer/fall 2002. Some of these songs were way overplayed but they are still good. There is only one bad song on this CD and this is the first CD where a country song started appearing in every CD.
Nelly - Hot In Herre: This was a good club song but it was seriously overplayed. B+ N.O.R.E. - Nothin': I like this song it is edgy and the beat is good. A Alicia Keys & Eve - Gangsta Lovin': This is another song that was seriously overplayed but it was good. B+ Beenie Men & Janet - Feel It Boy: This song was alright. I liked Janet's part in the song. B- Dirty Vegas - Days Go By: This song I hated in 2002 but I love it now. A- Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight: This is my favorite song on this cd. Kylie is such a good singer and the beat was great! A+ Shakira - Objection: This song was alright. I liked the music video better. B No Doubt - Underneath It All: This song I didn't like at first cause I heard it all the time but after a while it grew on me. B Jennifer Love Hewitt - Bare Naked: This song was horrible!!! Stick to acting singing is not for you. F- Vanessa Carlton - Ordinary Day: This is another good song by her. I like the meaning to it. A- Dixie Chicks - Landslide: This was a good song by the band. I like this remake. A- Aaliyah - I Care 4U: This is a great song by her and my favorite song. It is a sad song but it is great! A+ Ginuwine - Stingy: This is a good song I liked it and it's point is one that most can agree too. A Norah Jones - Don't Know Why: I feel like I am in a New Orleans jazz club in a good way. This is a song I can kick back and relax too. A Chad Kroeger & Joesy Scott - Hero: This was a good song by this band. I have no complaints. B Hoobastank - Running Away: Another ok song. B Coldplay - In My Place: Great first hit on their cd. This is my favorite song by them on this cd, everything is perfect. A+ Creed - One Last Breath: This song was average, lets leave it at that. C+ Our Lady Peace - Somewhere Out There: This was a good song. I liked it then and I still listen to it today. A Bon Jovi - Everyday: This was a good song by Bon Jovi but the music video was better. A-

NOW has gotten better with adding more popular music, especially when we are during a time when you can't buy the single anymore from your local record store hardly often. Half of these songs I actually have not heard of when I bought this. Jennifer Love Hewitt sings? Wow. Norah Jones was a great mixture. Keep up the good work, and also buy NOW 12!

NOW That's What I Call Generic Commercial Corporate Junk! 11,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 11 (Audio CD)
The only thing that saves this album from falling into 1-star abyss is Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and No Doubt (even though "Underneath it all" is by far thier worst track to date). Every NOW release reminds us who listen to great artists (the likes of which MTV-addicted kids will probably never know about) exactly what we shouldn't be listening to. Most of this album consists of embarrasingly BAD artists/songs... most notibly NELLY's HOT IN HERRE (what a good example of what hip-hop SHOULDN'T be), the ever-annoying joke Bon Jovi, sadly generic rock band Creed and incubus ripoff Hoobastank. If you are addicted to the worst of the worst genre known as "pop", just save your money and get the albums of somewhat-talented groups Coldplay or No Doubt. Or better yet go explore the world beyond pop and find out what your missing.

Now 11 is the best of the Now since volume 8 in my opinion. Now 11 had almost all songs that i loved to listen to before now 11 came out. my top 5 favorite songs on Now 11 were Nelly's "Hot in Herre", Eve and Alicia Keys "Gangsta Lovin'", No Doubt "Underneath it All", Bon Jovi "Everyday" and finally Norah Jones "Don't Know Why". I hope Now 12 is as good as this volume.this is what i think should be on NOW 12: |
