4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good!, April 17, 2004
By
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 15 (Audio CD)
Yeh, yeh, this is pop music, now shut up. Pop is the sugar candy of the music world, so don't expect it to fill you with deep meaning and expect to either get sick or get sick OF it if you get too much. On the other hand, the bright colors and catchy little tunes do appeal to some people. I happen to like candy (though I wouldn't call this an art form of any sort), so here is my typical track-by-track breakdown.

1. No Doubt - It's My Life: Good cover, cool bassline, sort of repetitive, getting old, but it's No Doubt's best new song. (4/5)
2. Britney Spears - Toxic: The why-oh-why-do-I-like-this of Now 15. Her singing's never been great but here it's, well... pretty bad. Seems to be either straining or croaking. But something about the freaky violin and the electronic beat is catchy enough and I find it stuck in my head a lot. Definitely can't say I hate it. 4/5
3. Ludacris - Stand Up: I like Ludacris enough, but I don't really like this song. And Shawna sounds like she has a throat tumor. 2/5
4. Chingy - Holidae In: The beat's cool... it does sometimes almost sound dorky, to me anyway, but this is a decent song. A little old if you consider that One Call Away is more recent, but oh well. 4/5
5. Gangsta Nation - West Side Connection: Okay, I guess. Never heard this on the radio. 3/5
6. Sarah Conner - Bounce: Haven't I heard this before? Oh, it's that Mary J. Blige song looped with some angry girl lyrics over it. If it wasn't ripped off it'd be okay. I suppose it is rather catchy even if she is probably a one-hit wonder. 3/5
7. Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up: Eh... not only is Hey Mama newer, I think it's better. This is ok but I find it annoying. And the Black Eyed Peas sort of scare me since I saw them on SNL. 3/5
8. Nick Cannon - Gigolo: I didn't like this at first, but it's catchy. I like it better than I did, though I can't tell which is R. Kelly and which is Nick Cannon. 4/5
9. Beyonce - Me, Myself, and I: Boring. That's all, just... boring. 2/5
10. Baby Bash - Shorty Doowop: I hate Baby Bash, I hate the term "Shorty", this song is sort of cute, but all the same. 2/5
11. Eamon - I Don't Want You Back: I used to hate this song, now I think it's an okay song and sort of funny. But the edited version reminds me of swiss cheese... Two or three bleeps in every line make me wonder if it was worth it. 3/5
12. Jessica Simpson - With You: I used to really hate her... but I love this song! It's really fun to sing to and it's sweet. Her voice is airy but it is pretty. Nice song. 5/5
13. Norah Jones - Sunrise: Boring, but not in the same way as Beyonce's song. I dunno, it's like it's supposed to be boring. 2/5
14. Sheryl Crow - The First Cut is the Deepest: Good song. Reminds me of hot dogs for some strange reason but a good song. Another cover but a good one. 4/5
15. Fefe Dobson - Everything: It's enjoyable enough. Her voice reminds me of some country singer (can't put my finger on it). 3/5
16. Three Days Grace - I Hate Everything About You: A little overrated. Just why are the first and second verses the same thing? 3/5
17. Blink 182 - Feelin' This: I personally like the old, funny Blink, but this is ok. I Miss You is better but I won't complain here. 3/5
18. Good Charlotte - Hold On: As much as I would love to hate GC, I'm glad this was popular. Just stop calling this punk. (What would you call the candy version of punk anyway?) 4/5
19. Fuel - Falls on Me: Very, very good. I'd like this just because it's Fuel, but this is really a good song. It's no Hemmorhage (Forgive me, but that song is god), but it'll do. 5/5
20. Five for Fighting - 100 Years: This song is depressing as heck, and he's got the sort of voice some people would just hate, but I love this song anyway. 5/5

As much as we're all going to hate these songs in a few years, this is a pretty good box of candy.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 and 1/2 stars is more like it..., July 15, 2004
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 15 (Audio CD)
Okay, i know it's a little late to do a review of Now 15 when Now 16 is coming out in like 1 week but oh well.

Now 15 wasn't the best CD. It's obvious that on every NOW CD, the producers try to mix in the good songs, the bad songs, the popular songs and the unpopular songs. In Now 15, they focused a little more on bad songs/unpopular songs then the actual good and popular songs. For example, how many times have you heard "I Hate Everything About You" by 3 Days Grace on the radio? What about "Gangsta Nation" by Westside Connection? They did put on some very note-worthy stars/bands like Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, and Blink-182. The only problem is that the songs they put on were way past their time. Beyonce is great. So is "Me, Myself, and I" but it was never popular. I love the Black Eyed Peas. They just so happened to put on their worst single "Shut Up" when "Hey Mama" was peaking the charts. Blink 182's "feeling This" was very popular, about a year ago! There is no excuse why they didn't put on "I Miss You".

Okay, there were very popular songs on here such as "Toxic", "It's My Life", "Holidae In", "Falls on Me", "100 Years", "With You", "Sunrise" etc... Etc...

But on the CD they rushed and put on some stars that were WAY too early to be popular like Sarah Connor, Nick Cannon, FeFe Dobson, Three Days Grace etc...

They also put on some veterans that I liked like Sheryl Crow.
My last commemt is about "I Don't Want You Back" by Eamon. Why did they put this on the album? I have no idea because it certainly doesn't match up to the qualities of the other songs. This song is just horrible. I thought that the Now Cd's were suppose to put on mid-bubble-gum artist's songs. Eamon is not a mid bubble-gum artist. Believe me.

I'm a big Now fan and I'm definetely going to go and buy Now 16!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't critisise it! It wasn't THAT bad!, February 23, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 15 (Audio CD)
Now 15 is a mix of different genres and quite a jumble. But I think the selection is quite good. I will give you an opinion of the songs out of 5.

It's My Life, by No Doubt-- Well, I've never really listened to ska that much but I do like this song. Gwen Stefani has a great voice. Not outstanding, but I liked it. 3.5/5

Toxic, by Britney Spears-- I've heard it before and will never stop loving it! Extremely catchy beginning and Britney sings very well! 5/5

Stand Up, by Ludacris featuring Shawna-- ehhh, OK. I'm not a big fan of hip-hop and the beginning is a bit strange. 3/5

Holidae In, Chingy featuring Ludacris and Snoop Dogg-- again, not a big fan of hip-hop but this one is OK. 3/5

Gangsta Nation, Westside Connection featuring Nate Dogg-- this one doesn't leave much of an impression to me. 2.5/5

Bounce, by Sarah Connor-- Excellent! Very catchy beginning and Sarah's got a great voice! 5/5

Shut Up, by Black Eyed Peas-- Love this song! Fergie has got a very good, strong voice. The beat is strong and the tune is strange, but once you get used to it it's very good. 4/5

Gigolo, by Nick Cannon featuring R. Kelly-- Ooh! Very nice. I love the way it flows when he sings the word "Gigolo." Hip-hop again, but the chorus is quite melodic. The verse is rap but it's quite quiet. 4/5

Me, Myself and I, by Beyonce-- Mm, OK, I guess. I like the tune and Beyonce has a stunning voice, but it was slower than I expected. 3.5/5

Shorty Doowop, by Baby Bash featuring Perla Cruz & Russell Lee-- My God, why can't songs have proper spelling these days (see Holidae In above.) Anyway, this song is OK. Nice beginning and the tune is pretty good. 3/5

I Don't Want You Back, by Eamon-- wow, Eamon certainly got very literal! He swears quite a bit in here, just warning you kids. Good tune, very nice and flows well. The lyrics go well, but the song lacks that sort of vibe that makes you want to listen to it again. 3.5/5

With You, by Jessica Simpson-- Love it! Girl pop, granted, but Jessica Simpson has a great voice and I love the tune. The only thing wrong with it is that the lyrics are kind of dumb. "Wish I could say the word, like I was Supergirl." I mean, come on, Supergirl? Get real. 4/5

Sunrise, by Norah Jones-- It's all right. The genre is country and it certainly holds the country vibe. The song has a nice beat and Norah Jones has a nice voice, and the tune is OK too. But I can't feel that "alive" vibe in it. Oh well, maybe because of it's genre. OK overall. 3.5/5

The First Cut is the Deepest, by Sheryl Crow-- OK, so it sounded good when Cat Stevens sang it but Sheryl Crow is amazing with this song! Wonderful guitar and great vocals, and it always wants to make me sing! The lyrics are deep and the tune is soulful. 5/5

Everything, by Fefe Dobson-- Haven't really listened to it but it's quite nice. Not the sort of thing that makes me want to listen to it over and over but it has that vibe that will draw your attention. Good vocals and the lyrics are good too. 3.5/5

(I Hate) Everything About You, by Three Days Grace-- I LOVE it! The lyrics are rebellious and the voices are raw and brilliant. It is a very strong song that the more reserved few of you might not like. But if you like nodding your head to crashing guitars and rebellious voices, this is for you! 5/5

Feeling This, blink 182-- OK. The beat is all right and the tune is a little weird, but blink 182 have a good reputation so it might be just me. 3/5

Hold On, by Good Charlotte-- BRILLIANT!!! I'd give it 6/5 if I could. The lyrics are about life! Not about love but life. It gives you a message, and the guitar and tune is wonderful too. the vocals aren't brilliant but they're acceptable. 5/5

Falls on Me, by Fuel-- All right. Vocals are good, tune is good, but the style is a bit overused. 3.5/5

100 Years, by Five for Fighting-- absolutely beautiful and touching. Piano, slow song, but still great! 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars I like this CD, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 15 (Audio CD)
This CD is good. This is what I think about each song:

1. It's my life-No doubt: B+. Like the song, and my parents also, since there is an original version that is at least 20 years old. Gwen Stefani had a nice-sounding, less screechy voice, but she sounds kind of like she is crying.
2. Toxic-Britney Spears: C+. I like it a little bit. I used to hate it when it came out, but after hearing it for the 50th time this summer, I decided "It's okay, but if I have to hear it a thousand times, I go crazy." It is one of my 9-year-old sister's top favorite songs. Britney does not show very much talent when singing this song, but when you hear it in the morning and don't play any other songs, you have it stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
3. Stand up-Ludacris: D+. I like rap sometimes, but not like that.
4. Holiday in-Chingy: I hate it. Weird-sounding.
5. Gangsta nation-Westside connection: Weird-sounding, don't really know it.
6. Bounce-Sarah Connor: B-. Good song, but again, weird-sounding.
7. Shut up-Black-eyed peas: C. It's okay, but don't make me listen to it a thousand times.
8. Gigolo-Nick Cannon: I hate it. I can already tell that it's too rappy for me.
9. Me, myself, and I-Beyonce: C+. It's okay.
10. Shortly doowop-Baby bash: Don't really know it.
11. I don't want you back-Eamon: B-. I like it, but his voice is really high.
12. With you-Jessica Simpson: A. Very romantic sounding. It sounds like she's singing about paradise.
13. Sunrise-Norah Jones:C-
14. First cut is the deepest-Sheryl Crow: C+. Too hokey for me.
15. Everything-Fefe Dobson: A-. Like the song. She sings nicely.
16. Everything about you-3 days grace: C. It's okay.
17. Feeling this-Blink 182: Don't know enough of Blink 182's music.
18. Hold on-Good Charlotte: Don't really like them. Skip it.
19. Falls on me-Fuel: Don't really know it.
20. 100 years-5 for fighting: C-. Don't like it. You can't get away from it. It's in every store you walk into. You can play it once, but not a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice tracklisting for Now 16!, June 26, 2004
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music! 15 (Audio CD)
OMG, they ALREADY put the tracklisting and cover, awsome! OK, first of all, im gonna tell yall that im not doing the full tracklisting and if it was good or bad or a surprise to put it on like I did with Now 15 & Totally Hits 2004 Volume 1.

First off, why no Blink 182? I Miss You was such a hit at the time! Ah, its ok. They forget to put them on once in a while... I wont complain anymore. I wont complain that Jay-Z & Janet are missing in action, either.

Second, its good to have Christina Milian, Petey Pablo, Lenny
Kravitz, Hoobastank, and Beenie Man back. And, all of those artist's songs were big hits except for Lenny's Where Are We Runnin. That was a minor hit.

Third, they included My band and Hey Ya!, which everyone knows pretty late. Well, My band was new at the time when Now 15 came out, but, its already falling off the charts. It IS totally cool that Hey Ya! is on, but, its pretty old, too.

Fourth, It was pretty early to include Nina Sky's Move Your Body, and Juvenile's Slow Motion, but, it was neat anyway, cuz, both are awsome jams.

Fith, im very happy that they didnt leave out JoJo's Leave and Los Lonely Boys's Heaven, cuz, theyre doing awsome right now, and, theyre catchy as hell.

Ill tell about the others in my real Now 16 review. But, amazon are acting like ingreeds right now, cuz, they didnt put a link for Now 16 yet, and, tons of other cd sites did. Oh well, theyll obviously make a link soon. If not, ill roar 3 million times at the workers there. (Heh, heh.)

PEACE
