About the Artist

The seeds for The Tornadoes were sown in 1959 in Alabama and they moved west to Redlands, California. The next year, their main lineup was in place. The group (then known as The Vaqueros), changed their name to The Tornadoes and obtained a recording contract in 1962. Their first release, "Bustin' Surfboards," was a local #1 and obtained countrywide airplay. The Tornadoes continued to release fine singles and an LP was belatedly released in mid-1963. The band lasted for a few more years and reconvened in 1993. They've been together ever since, especially since the inclusion of "Bustin' Surfboards" in the 1994 film "Pulp Fiction" revived the art of the surf instrumental.
